@Nollie you reminded me that I wanted The Prince too and, of course… a Smudge, lol. She is so cute!

Do you all buy bare roots from Tuincentrum? I never tried it, but it has interesting prices and I need to save some money, so I think I am going to try it and buy some bare root roses hoping they’ll develop fast and well.
Potted roses are better, in my opinion, but they are so expensive too!

Thank you @Fire. The original bush is only a random one from either the pound shop or an SM so it has done me proud. Some do well and some not so well.  :)

that smudge is so cute 🥰.

@dabolem I have never purchased a potted rose 🌹. Only bareroots.
I have bought some from TCL.
I must say I prefer Lens , but that is just me. ( more expensive)

@WhereAreMySecateurs pink cloud is probably going to be shovelpruned .  Although still in doubt sometimes . But it is fighting against  mildew since spring . I like the flowers but it is not an abundance of it. So maybe I’m giving it a 3rd year…
the flowers crisp in the sun… has sun from 09.30 until 14.30 the wall gets hot) and my OH really does not like it…

I am back and got busy with work and home.

Garden is looking ok though roses in pots have suffered with lack of water. Lost some cosmos and asters. Everything needs a good soak, deadheading and cleanup of dried leaves.

It has been only two weeks but feels like season has changed. Somehow garden has got into Autumn vibes.

Regarding a yellow that tolerates shade, I have The Poet's Wife and Julia Child in shade. Both are doing fine, Julia child is better shrub. The Poet's Wife is very floppy sprawling shrub and needs support all the time.

It feels the same here @newbie77 as so many trees have lost their leaves and lots of summer visiting birds have already left for Africa. Many of my roses have been confused, delayed and stymied by weather extremes but are now seriously trying to have their autumn flush after some decent rain - despite temps still topping 30c!

@dabolem I prefer bare root. Past orders from Tuincentrumlottum have been really good, strongly branching with good roots. Their ordering system is a little hit and miss sometimes, especially last year (that was the order I ended up cancelling). I tried to place an order yesterday actually, but their website was malfunctioning. I have emailed them my order instead and am waiting to hear back.

I have also had some fantastic roses from old rose specialist Roses Loubert in France. They have a huge selection of varieties, many of which you cannot buy elsewhere. They are very reliable, but do prune canes and roots quite short for delivery. It hasn’t affected how quickly they establish though.

Thank you @newbie77, then I think I will try Julia Child because I need an upright rose, besides its yellow seems to be warmer than The Poet’s Wife’s, am I right?

@Nollie I have taken a look at Roses Loubert website (and big surprise, their site is in French only, lol), they have a great choice and seem to deliver faster than Tcl but prices are higher.
I think I’ll give a try with Tcl because this year we spent most of our budget in vet care for our older cats and need to spend the less possible money on roses, unfortunately.

BTW, I have little experience with bareroot roses, I am not clear about how many hours you must put them in a water bucket before planting. Some websites say 2 hours (which is what I’ve done till now), but I found many others that say the minimun is 24 hours.

How much time do you all keep yours in the bucket of water?
