My rose of notable scent is Dr Jamain. In another garden I would plant lots of the above mentioned for fragrance - Gertie, Chandos, Rose D R, Arthur Bell.
The Docteur gets into such a terrible mess after the first flush, even with extra watering and feeding.
'Bring Me Sunshine'.. perhaps this is the colour we've been waiting for...? 'Angela'.. surprisingly sweet scent for a semi-single.. 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'.. 'Mutabilis'.. 'Dr. O'Donel Browne'.. the form and scent of 'Mme. Isaac Pereire' on a much smaller plant... [E.U. only]..
You have some lovely roses @Omori, I didn't know you had Dame Judy Dench. I have it new this year from bare root, not yet flowering. Yours is a great colour. Also appreciated your DA translation 'vigorous mess' hee hee Â
It might be me with a youngish Parkdirector Riggers @dabolem and @Woodgreen. I will cut down the perennials in front of it this weekend (needs doing, they were early flowerers) and take a good look at it and report back. I don't think any of the flowers frazzled in the heat and for the first time this year many have. It doesn't get much sun though, I knew I was planting it in a hard position but chose it specifically for that.
@Rojas, my favourite scents are from Golden Gate which I sadly got rid of as it was a dragon of a rose and Alfred Colomb a new to me last year hybrid perpetual which is not yet flowering.
I can't remember who asked if anyone had roses unflowering, but yes, new roses, maybe as many as ten and some have no buds. Also an existing rose, rugosa Agnes but I did move it over winter.Â
Here are some flowering new roses though: Rosengarten Zweibrucken made it to the first rung. Small flowers, I would say sweetly scented not powerful Mme Ernest Calvat. The first sniff seemed powerfully strong (and nice) but when I went for a second I seemed to have inhaled it all Two pot pets kept in the dankest parts of the garden. See the massive difference in bloom size (and production ) between Rose de Rescht and Global Beauty. GB does not have healthy leaves, even before the nasturtium climbed around its neck but I think I have a spot in the ground which will hide the leaves and manner of growth. This one also has a slight mankiness but I'm not too fussed as I bought it more for Old Rose curiosity purposes. It is a gallica, Cardinal de Richelieu. Sadly the bloom was wrecked by the heat in the first day but I think this year is a weird year, I have lots of frazzled flowers and I don't normally have any so I am not judging it for now. St Dunstan's. A Kirkham rose I got from Jones the Rose. This first one has a darker lemon twist to one quarter. Oh, I see Beales has 35% off container roses with HOT35 until Sunday night if anyone need a treat.
Little Rambler This is almost the combination I've been hoping for from these two, Alba Maxima and Tuscany. I say almost as this is only a sprig of Max and the other two thirds of it and all the height (maybe 7') came into leaf really late and isn't yet flowering. I was also hoping the view would be from my garden, this is from the street, but never mind. It is likely related to the sun angle. Maxima is a great old rose, funny flat flowers, like those old fashioned powder puff things. I really like them. Another Alba, Celestial tumbling sweetly into the pond. Â
