Some are complaining that some Elizabeths look pale and washed out, but I personally go for paler pinks and prefer the less zingy incarnations. She and Bring me Sunshine will take some time to settle in. It seems a bit soon to be judging them as a success or dud - in just one season.
It's been quite cold here and I am getting some very strong colours.
'Gabriel Oak', redder than I've ever seen it, hard to capture. 'Olivia RA' 'Eyes for You' 'Saphir', very pretty colour. 'Our Beth' - I disliked it in its first year and wanted to get rid of it but it improved a lot in the 2nd year and I really like it now in 3rd. Strong fragrance. Foliage and fragrance are bourbon, blooms floribunda. 'Starlet Melina' 'Scarborough Fair' PAoK showing strong coral hues 'Amanda Paternotte' As you can see, it gets damask crud/BS on its older leaves but it produces new shoots and new foliage quickly. This rose is in a constant race with it but usually winning. I don't mind it on the lower leaves. 'Scented Garden'
I like that 'Our Beth' very much, I saw it at Peter Beales..
.. first blooms can look weird, I feel I've been a bit lucky with the Austins this year.. 'Elizabeth' 2nd day.. I find this exquisitely old fashioned.. ..no loss of colour this afternoon.. 'BMS'..
The flowers on my roses aren't as perfect as the ones I see on here. But I am happy that I had enough to pick today. I don't know the names of the pink ones, but the yellows are Golden Showers, Sheila's Perfume, Grosvenor and Elina.
My Malvern Hills are starting to flower for the first time for me. It seems they open quite yellow and fade to cream. Does that seem fair to say? I was quite struck how deep yellow some of the flowers were, but I get the impression that overall the whole effect at peak is very pale yellow/cream.
This MH picture on sellers' sites seems to show a much deeper/darker egg yolk yellow that, as a cluster, is not representative.
@bullfinch your posy of roses is beautiful. Everyday I cut roses for bringing them inside. Some are short-lived in the vase, but the bloom form and fragrance can be enjoyed throughout the day, especially when working from 🏠.
Loving everyone's 🌹 photos. @pitter-patter Sweet Honey has nice bloom shape. @edhelka Our Beth is quite dainty. @Marlorena I think Elizabeth and BMS will develop those characteristics mentioned in the DA catalogue when they grow further. Right? @Omori Deep secret has a nice crimson red colour and stands upright.
Oxford. The City of Dreaming Spires.
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth
