This is another view of the Hoheria tree, from a different time in the year...just before the flowers are formed. We have raised the crown so that it's not too full across the bottom section. It's also a bit thicker now and fuller looking.
Thank you! It looks beautiful (as do the surrounding plants). Typically, what is their growth rate?
@Fairygirl Looks like the north and south problems are happening again. Just took one look at the lovely Hoheria[ which I had never heard of] and thought wow but it won't grow in the Midlands.

@awoleaf Can see you are in West London just after your user name. I have worked as a gardener and some of the threads have surprised me just how different growing conditions are from North to South. It does affect any advice given.

Am I losing the plot now, or was that location not there when we initially replied! If it was - apologies for not seeing it. You should be fine with that tree, assuming you aren't anywhere too exposed or at altitude etc. I'm guessing if you're actually in the city, that won't be the case though.
@GardenerSuze, we used to have a very knowledgeable poster on the forum years ago. No matter how hard we all tried, he couldn't understand the vast differences between living in Cornwall and living in the north. North of England, never mind further It's totally different, and the climate is different here compared to the east, or the south of Scotland. Anywhere from Perth northwards, is different again- in many ways. It makes it interesting and challenging, if nothing else
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Thanks Fairygirl! You’re not losing the plot, I added my location afterwards. I then thought I had added my location in a previous message but I can’t seem to find it now, so now I think I’m losing the plot!
Lots of good options in the post it has been quite inspiring.
I plan to test my soil this week so I can be a bit more educated.
Not to confuse matters more, I’m now looking at plant life with a Japanese edge!
Phew. Thanks @awoleaf. I was getting ready to book myself into the home....
I hope you get something that suits your plot. I had a look at Pippin, and unfortunately they have very little stock, so apologies for sending you there, but at least it gives you some info. There are other suppliers, so have a look around. Burncoose always has a good variety of every plant and shrub, but again - supplies might be tricky

@Fairygirl Literally just been looking at a thread about Gaura ,it is probably shooting down in Devon. Here in the Midlands I would leave the top growth a little longer, just in case it gives some protection. Verbena Bampton is another that I would leave for the same reason.
