@wild edges As it is 'several hundred years' old there will be no shortage of seedlings and very mature trees from that one. Maybe they have counted the rings and they don't fit with the story being spun around the tree?
The ones in our garden are at least 223 years old. We know this because they were planted as boundary markers and are shown on a map dated 1881. They are beautiful trees and we love them. There are 11 on our land and some others that are now on our neighbour's side of the fence as some land has changed hands over the intervening years.
I was just listening to an archived comedy on Radio 4 about a bloke who had died and is being reincarnated as various animals to improve himself before he graduates back to being human again. In one episode he's a swallow and a young orphaned chick latches onto him on migration. The chick is obsessed with pylons and incessantly bores him with pylon facts. Poor man
