When we had a crappy old car, pedestrians and drivers would take risks  to fling  themselves in front of us.  The car was well maintained but I always wondered  why they would assume that a crappy old car had good brakes.

Today, I stumbled upon the place where the local morlocks indulge in retail therapy. Among the delights were long piled fake fur dining chair cushions, foot masks ( like cosmetic face masks only for feet)  - that kind of thing.

Good grief! I'd think I'd sat on one of the cats.

  • Having had a an urgent hospital appointment on 17/10, and finally been sent home without being seen, I received a letter from the hospital today (26/10 - lunchtime), dated 20/10, asking me to attend for a further appointment on 23/10 at 9am.

    How daft is that!!?

Letter tells me that I may not get another appointment if I do not turn up to the appointment, or fail to tell them in advance.

Now I'm held in a phone queue, and have been for 30 minutes.
    Our good old NHS .

Crikey @rowlandscastle444 , 20th was a Saturday, so even if it had arrived on Monday 22nd that's still less than a day's notice (assuming you don't have an early-bird postie). Surely such short notice would have been worth a phone call, email or text message depending on what contact details they've got for you.

  • Thank you @JennyJ
20th was actually a Friday, and Monday was 23rd! Still, there was extremely little chance of my receiving the notice on time. Plus I have to give the hospital transport at least 24 hours notice. My landline (the noted contact) received no message, or even missed call. There was absolutely no way I was going to get it on time.
It would be laughable, if it wasn't so important - and that they'd had me there on seemingly false pretences a few days earlier.
No wonder the NHS is in trouble.

I had a friend came to visit today before having surgery tomorrow  which will be leaving him housebound for 2 months.
Whilst he was here the hospital called and have cancelled his surgery until Nov 24th.
This is the third time it's been cancelled.

I’m so grateful for our private medical insurance.

I worked out this afternoon that between Mrs Cotto being diagnosed with terminal cancer on August 18th and chemotherapy starting on November 14th we will have had 70 medical appointments between the two of us. The various medical agencies have all been excellent.

@rowlandscastle444, I’m sure your non attendance on Monday would be counted in the figures showing how patients fail to attend, and are costing the NHS money. Do you have a direct line number for the consultant you should have seen? Often on any letters you’ve received. You might be able to get through to their secretary, they are usually more able to respond than the people sending out appointments and juggling appointments for several clinics. If it was me, I’d be as mad as h*ll now, I’d be emailing my MP, and I’d certainly contact the PALS service at the hospital. I’d also be trying to get in touch with the General Manager. They are the ones who are supposed to be ensuring that the services work to support the medical teams. You have been so badly let down, I could cry.
And your poor friend, @Hostafan1! Surely he should now qualify for having his surgery done promptly at a private hospital after having been cancelled so many times. Would this also apply to you, @punkdoc?

Even worse! I mentally "lost" a day last week after spending the whole of Friday driving home from Chippenham.
I hope you manage to get through to someone who has the ability to sort it out and they don't make you go back to the start of the whole referral process. I agree the consultant's secretary is probably a good place to start.
