@Lizzie27, I broke my OH's mug last week. As I've done it before,( I never tend to break my own🤔) the last time we saw one of his favourite ones, I bought two ( as @rowlandscastle444 suggested). We tend to do this now with clothing too🤭.
My bus pass has gone up from £38 to £59 a month. The service is no more reliable and the buses are definitely dirtier. They have also discontinued the “local lower rate” so a daily ticket is now £4.50 rather than £3.
I can luckily afford it but that’s a big chunk out of someone’s minimum wage pay packet.
There was a bus strike here a while ago, they now pay the drivers properly but of course they have to make a good profit. That’s what public transport is for after all.
I've got a big chip in my favourite mug from a child dropping a toy car into my coffee
We've just come back from a week at the seaside. We all had a lovely time but it sure is busy down south right now. We planned to go to Plymouth Aquarium one day and the website recommended pre-booking while saying you can do so up to an hour in advance. In the morning at 7am I went to book it and it was totally sold out for the day, due to the bad weather keeping people off the beaches I imagine. I booked for the next day instead and we decided to head down to the Eden Project. The Eden Project was also pre-bookable and only had afternoon slots left. We had a great time there anyway and looking at the food queues it's probably a good thing we went after lunch. They had one girl serving ice cream in the whole place and she had a queue of people waiting 20 minutes or more to deal with. I felt very sorry for her. We were there for 5 hours and probably spent an hour of that just changing clothes. Boiling hot when the sun came out, freezing when it was cloudy and then lashing down with rain every 20 minutes or so. Proper holiday weather.
The aquarium was even busier and with people crammed into smaller spaces. In one exhibit a few families decided to camp out and have picnics right in front of the viewing area so no one could get close to the glass. I imagine that's lovely on a quiet day but the entitlement of doing it when it's busy is just unbelievable. Other than that we had a great time.
I'll do another post on plastic pollution on the beaches. The high winds and high tides brought in a lot of plastic which was both horrifying and fascinating in equal measures. Plastic from all over the world and things that had clearly been at sea for a long time. It also brought in a lot of interesting natural stuff too though.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
Where to start!! Had to renew driving license 2 years ago,was surprised they didn't want a new picture, last one was about 12 years old,did it online Hubby 65, they wouldn't let him renew online.... after he got a long way through the forms.... online!!! He could do it at the post office. Mine came yesterday, did all the forms online,as it suggests in the great big blue leaflet, I kept pressing next after assuring I don't have a passport. THEN it says I can't renew online. Not happy sending personal documents through the post. That wasn't going to be my curmudgeon!!!bloody neighbours, bloody weeds!!! They aren't old decrepitude,or incredibly busy. One side,50, working part time,no kids etc. Used to do a bit half a****, slightly better than nothing. Last time was may ,I had just come back from hairdresser, weeds are now up to the cat. Her hubby said in not so many words, she's a lazy***, spends all her time watching TV. He doesn't know, she spends a lot of time (and money) in various beauty salons, and socializing.
There's a guy in his 50's who lives in one of the houses opposite us. He works from home but in the past couple of years has never even cut his grass. When his neighbour asked if he was OK as his garden was overgrown, his response was "I don't give a f*** about the garden. If it bothers you so much you can f***ing do it". The neighbour is over 80.
Lyn, she works part-time. He doesn't work very long hours or a big commute, but starts "things," hobbies, never Finnished anything, one car on the drive... about 6 years, another in bits in the garage! He's just started demolitions indoors, she didn't have hot water in her kitchen for 12 years, had to boil a kettle to wash up!!! According to her,he's "busy" in the garden shed inventing "things". He started a beautiful Indian stone patio about 8/10 years ago,it cost an absolute fortune,it's now completely weedy and caving in, because it's moved so much. Oh, forgot my last curmudgeon, I put my last slice of lovely seedy, grainery bread in the toaster, heard it pop, came back,it was black.... hubby had done crumpets,it was turned up full!!! The other side, one retired, one PT and often WFH. There's often piles of dog **** in either garden, they're open plan,we aren't allowed fencing etc, they don't clear up. Hubby was weeding out there the other day and the smell!!!
HAHA! Another blast from the past @Lyn. Professor Pat Pending! My curmudge has a silver lining. Edward (babycat) got locked in the wandering minstrel's bedroom at some time during the night. He reached up and rattled the door knob till I woke up and let him out. 🤣 I thought mother had forgotten how to work a door knob but instead he had figured it out. Lucky he's a giant!
