@Lyn I find the glue they use to stick labels on jam and chutney etc jars very difficult to remove sometimes, to the point where it's more harmful to clean and recycle them as preserves jars than it is just to chuck them in the bottle bank.

Whatever they use on cardboard boxes has to have the card peeled off, gone are the days when you could just chuck a box in the compost. I remember some years ago, I think it was @B3 asking what the little plastic strips were in her compost.
I have found them in bought compost as well.

@Lyn we use cardboard on the veggie beds to suppress weeds. Well, that's the idea but it doesn't work on the bindweed!
I don't know where his head was at but the first year I suggested we try it OH used a load of our packing boxes from the move which would have been fine had he thought to remove the big metal staples and the plastic tape before it rotted down and he then rotavated it. He hasn't made that mistake twice tho.

Careful what you say @s@steveTu - especially on a Gardening forum - someone, somewhere will already be attempting to breed a new Rose to be called "Trump". The label description will no doubt read something along the lines of .......can be difficult to control and will spread given the slightest chance, no need for any sh*t at the base as it produces plenty of its own, unusual looking flowers often resembling a police mug shot.......... It goes without saying that it will be expensive too
