I'm with you @Winston_The_Gravity_Man. I used to like them until I had a glut.I forcefed myself on them. Now even looking at a recipe involving them makes me nauseous. If I had to choose between them and parsnips, I'd eat a witchetty grub

My daughter is allergic to all sorts of things, so we're growing them to use instead of pasta.
I roast that sort of veg for my soup, so they'll be used for that too.

I'm with @Obelixx on the aubergines though. I used to frequent a very well known restaurant in my youth ,in Glasgow's west end, which had a very famous vegetarian dish on their menu that used aubergines. It was ok, but I'd have been happier if it had a been a different veg  :D
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

I wonder how many vegetables are eaten like medicine and how many are actively enjoyed.

  • Thank you, @Dovefromabove.  You're absolutely right, I would be amazed 😅 !  However, not being one to ever seem ungrateful I shall put it on my 'to do' list and report back when the deed is done.

No, ya' nut .... I meant it to exhibit surprise at your putting 'those things' in cakes, @Lyn 😊.
When there's always biscuits in the tin, where's the fun in biscuits ?

I really really like vegetables … I prefer most veg to most fruit … I’d rather have celery or raw carrot to an apple … I’d even prefer the peeled stem of calabrese type broccoli to an apple  😇

I really try to prefer vegetables to carbohydrates but it's really hard😞

  • Celery's nice, @Dovefromabove, but I only like it with salt and after two or three bites I've probably exceeded the WHO's guidance for my monthly limit !

I knew a bloke on one boat who used to have four fried eggs for breakfast every morning and would pour salt on them until their shape couldn't easily be made out !  Seriously !

    He died 😐

  • We grew our own courgettes. The first year no plants had flowers, the second year we had flowers, but no fruit, the third year I was given several plants by a neighbour - and we had a total of three hand-grenade sized fruit. One meal!! Then nothing.
I stopped trying, and concentrate on those things that I can grow well - and then we swap with neighbours.
  • You may well be right, @pansyface , but other than baking with three of them in @Dovefromabove 's cake .... and I'm still dubious about that, by the way .... I can envisage absolutely no occasion when it will seem even slightly likely that I'm going to validate your opinion for myself (Jeez, but that sounds a bit priggish ! Sorry about that).

They're mean vegetables anyway ... in the morning they're merely sappy green cylinders but by the late afternoon when you're likely to want to pick them for your tea they've swollen to the size of First World War zeppelins !  And with a taste to match !

Chips are vegetables, @B3 :)  Fill your boots, I say.
