You think you have problems @wild edges .  Last time I got into the sea Greenpeace sent a boat out to protect me. :D
Many years ago, on holiday in Cornwall, we saw a guy getting out of the sea and we all thought he had a wetsuit on.  He didn't.  He was the hairest person we had ever seen.

@B3 I feel your pain.  I don't know of any other fruit or veg which rots so totally from the inside out and can give the impression of still being almost normal - until you pick it up and drop it!

Seems like we have a hosepipe ban down here from the 26th June. Under investment by the water company(ies) for decades, increase in population and climate change. Recipe for preparing for water shortages two weeks into June....

Of course, but should a water company be looking at populations and climate change? I've been aware for  decades. They've known about this since, what, 1970s?
Apparently there'll be a potential £1000 fine for using a hosepipe after the ban comes into play, yet this self same company has a leakage rate of nearly 90 million litres a day (compared to 540 million litres usage normally in summer and now since the heat, 630+ million litres), constantly pollutes rivers and the sea with untreated sewage and hasn't built any reservoirs since...?
    And the reservoirs show:

...doesn't that imply that there's not enough capacity in the reservoir system?

How will this ban now not be common place - without the investment?

A couple of things I've noticed about recent water-company complaints: People rightly complain about raw sewage being dumped into rivers but I've heard literally nothing from people saying they've stopped using chemicals in toilets etc to help reduce the impact of the inevitable spills. People also rightly complain about the lack of investment from the water companies but no one seems particularly interested in investing in additional water storage at home. Gardeners can be the exception but I don't see anyone cleaning their car with rain water around here.

I've just had the dreaded mortgage letter through the post. My current fixed rate runs out in October and we're looking at a minimum of £800 extra a year on the new rates :(  Luckily my youngest starts school in September so my wife will be working more hours and that will cover it. On a positive note though it looks like we have about £20,000 less on the mortgage than I thought so we actually own two out of the three stories of our house now. We just need to pay off the bedrooms and we're done.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

We are already banned from watring between 8am and 8pm.  A full ban will now doubt follow.   We have 6 x 350 litre water butts.  They will not be enough but we save water from the hot taps in the kitchen and pantry while we wait for it to run hot and that helps with the pots of tender plants and herbs up near the house.

    Really?

Am I just getting old and grumpy or is this country really going to the dogs and suffering badly from end of empire syndrome?
