Talking of driving round London at night, my daughter did a 100k bike ride round London last Saturday for cancer funds, for extra money she vowed to ride home alone to Cornwall and extra 230 miles, she got to Winchester the next day and stopped for lunch, bike chained, she unlocked it, went to pick up her water bottle when some bstard leapt out, onto to the bike and sped away. She had to phone for her husband to drive up and fetch her, they booked into accommodation because neither fancied the long drive back.

They do it because they live in a country where they think they’re entitled to everything they want, if they can’t claim it, they’ll steal it, that’s a nice 5,000 in his pocket, probably for drugs. 🤬🤬

Bike crime statistics in this country are really disappointing. Tens of thousands of bikes stolen every year and very few convictions. I used to cycle into university every day and eventually my bike was stolen. Groups of kids used to prowl the bike racks looking to steal what they could but the university kept the cctv cameras pointed at the car park where there was no crime instead. Youtube is full of videos showing how to bypass the locks on bikes and selling special tools to help.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
That means tens of thousands are buying stolen bikes. They can't all be ignorant of the fact.
How can you tell what's stolen? There's thousands of second-hand bikes listed on eBay at any time. There's some nice recovery stories on this website but the police seem to have little involvement in a few of them https://stolen-bikes.co.uk/recovered-bikes/

Yet another reason why bikes should have a registration plate and cyclists should pass a test to get a licence, and a points system so that dangerous cyclists can be banned.
One way to provide at least a little protection, or hope of recovery, is to have the post code stamped on the bike. It probably wouldn't stop it being stolen, but might make it more difficult to sell and therefore it could be dumped, found and traced to the owner. The toerag who stole the bike will probably only get enough to keep them in drugs for a few days, certainly nothing like its second hand value.
Have apple tree prices shot up for some reason? I've been looking around locally for a Katy and the one I've finally found is £65 for a fairly small tree. I imagine Brexit/inflation is to blame but it's about twice what I paid for the last one. My current tree is cropping well but has canker so I need to make plans to replace it as the apples are the best for drying. It's a long term payback plan at that price though.
