There could be a shopping trolley in there for all they know. The one going through backwards was fairly impressive. T'other half (who worked in motor industry) tells me that it all depends on where the air intake is. Handy Landy old style with a snorkel, ideal. They used to do all sorts of things with them on their test track at Gaydon. Fancy schmancy chelsea tractor, more style than substance.
There are loads of idiots out there in 4x4s ........... there are also these folk, and others like them across the country ... some of them have saved lives ... https://www.elrc.info/sections/rover-rescue/

My washing machine isn't heating the water again. This is the third time it's needed repair work in under four years. The last time they replaced the heater, control panel and thermostats and that was less than two years ago. I wish I could just a refund and buy a new one.
I'm currently half an hour into live chat with Samsung and the person just told me that I'm probably trying to dry too many clothes at the same time which is why they won't get dry. I had to point out that my washing machine isn't a tumble dryer.

An hour on live chat and they eventually told me they'd offer me 25% off a replacement machine. I told them I'd enjoyed less than 40% of the expected lifespan of the machine so if they're admitting it's not fit for purpose then I would settle for a 60% discount. They're getting back to me...

You sometimes wonder what training any of these people get when you phone, don't you @wild edges? I often think they [manufacturers] really just don't care about the longevity of machines. They simply aren't fit for purpose a lot of the time.

It took an hour on chat to get 'Kenneth' to understand the problem and he's had to pass it on to his supervisor who will get back to me within 48 hours. Last time it took over a month to get them to send out an engineer and that time it was under warranty. This time the machine's warranty has lapsed but I'm just hoping the parts they provided previously will have a warranty. Otherwise I've got to start a battle with Curry's to get them to replace the machine or provide a good discount on a new one. I'm actually hoping to replace the machine as it's been so terrible I'd be glad to see the back of it. I don't know if anyone actually makes a good machine these days though.

Ours is a Bosch, bought when they still made things in Germany. It's at least 10 years old and has been very good - she said, touching wood. The only problems have been caused by things escaping OH's pockets..... Our old dishwasher is a bit older and also a Bosch and has been a lot less bovver than the Electrolux that came with our fitted kitchen 5 years ago.
Have had so many problems with Samsung printers and phones in the past I wouldn't trust them with an important thing like a washing machine.

My repair man said Bosch are the best machines @wild edges. As @Obelixx says, they aren't necessarily made in Germany now [ like so many products] but they can be repaired easily, and are well built and more reliable to start with. He supplies lots of landlords, and says he buys machines and installs them for them, and it means he makes a bit on them, but it means he's also built a good reputation, and there's always recommendations for repairs or new machines. If/when my machine goes down the pan, I'll be contacting him for a Bosch. I had the same problems with the [expensive] machine we got when we first moved into our first family home. Useless. The man was never away doing repairs. Virtually the whole r*ddy machine must have been replaced within about 7 years.

My previous machine was a Bosch and lasted about 15 years. Our dishwasher is a more recent Bosch though and it's really flimsy and clearly built to a low budget. It puts me off buying another Bosch machine sadly. I'm not sure brand names mean anything these days. My Kenwood freezer turned out to be just a Beko with a Kenwood badge glued on the front and £100 added to the price.
