Chatting to my neighbour yesterday evening and assumed his wife and kids must be away for a few days as I hadn't seen their new car which they collected last Thursday.  4 year old Ford Kuga purchased from a large national company which only sells 2nd hand vehicles.  The reason I hadn't seen the car is that they returned it after a couple of days.  Before taking it home his wife had checked the oil and water (yes his wife is car savvy) and noticed the water reservoir was empty.  Profuse apologies from the sales person that it must have been missed when they serviced it.  Filled and driven home.  Checked the following day and it was low so alarm bells started.  Topped it up and drove around for a few miles until steam started coming from under the bonnet and out the exhaust.  At that point returned to the dealership where the sales guy tried to tell them not to worry as it was under warranty and they would replace the engine if it blew up!  They declined to accept this advice and did get a full refund.  The only positive was that they got more than expected from the dealership for their old car, which had a constant engine management light on, and the dealership had already moved it on so they couldn't be lumbered with that again.
The neighbour also said they had noticed a number of other faults in the 48 hours or so they had the car.  It doesn't say much of the pre-sales checks or the attitude of the company.

It wasn’t Car Shop was it? … 😱
    🤬🤬🤬

We had six months of absolute hell because of them … eventually we got our money back plus compensation.  Total blatant liars … we had (and still have) the evidence!!!  😡

Two million disposable vape pens sold every week and at least half end up in landfill or as litter even though they contain enough lithium to power over 1000 electric vehicles. The industry says it plans to do something about it and the government is having a slow think about it as well. I've got clay tobacco pipes here that were thrown away as rubbish in the 1600s. 4.5 trillion fag butts are littered every year and the government still can't decide what to do about them. It's not like this wasn't inevitable as soon as someone came up with the idea.

Not the Car Shop, it might have been a Store though :D  Just being careful with naming and shaming as I wasn't directly involved.  I think they have had a lucky escape.

I'm curmudgeonly today about why some folk are so inconsiderate and/or lazy. We've got roadworks down by the roundabout and temporary traffic lights on all 3 exits. On the narrower one on which parking is allowed they put traffic cones out so 2 way traffic could take place. Three car owners must have moved the cones in order to park on that strip and left their cars there presumably overnight and well into the morning. The result was traffic chaos. Makes me so cross!

@BenCotto,  our bills are nowhere near as high as yours. We leave the boiler on all year round so if the temperature drops below the set limit, the heating comes on. I use the electric fan oven every day, including the small oven for warming plates and last week I used the washing machine every day and the tumble dryer at least three times. We are lucky enough not to have to watch the pennies now, having been fairly frugal most of our lives.

If my OH thinks the DD is too high he just rings our supplier and insists they lower it. They haven't ever refused to date. They also cannot hang onto your money so you can insist on a refund of a credit amount. It's crazy to leave a substantial amount in the coffers of energy suppliers. You could re-invest that in say Premium Bonds for six months and if you are lucky (and I've won £300 over the last 2 years) you've made a bit extra. Worth a rethink?

I asked them to refund my credit and reduce my direct debit and they refused. They claimed that the direct debit was accurate for annual use and this credit amount will disappear over the winter but it would take a lot of heating to make my usage jump 50% a month.

just cancel your direct debit until the balance goes down. I've done it before.
Even threatening to cancel the direct debit might get them to act.

I arranged for Shell, my supplier, to take what I owe every month not a set amount so I never owe them money and they don't take more than they should.
I'm surprised more people don't use this method of payment.

  • My supplier has failed to bill me correctly for over a year.  I have a huge credit balance,  the Ombudsman is in the middle of sorting this out.  They told me it was good that I had continued to pay the direct debit as it proved my willingness to pay, and further showed the fault was on their side.
