if it's a good idea to send men to Rwanda, why aren't they sending women and children there too?
    A sensible answer  please

My guess is that the vast majority of those trying to get into the UK illegally are males travelling alone.  If they can be discouraged from making the journey far fewer families will try to join them once the men are in the UK.  As I say just a guess from a non-affiliated member of the group.
Right - that's the theory (possibly), but that doesn't really answer Hosta's question. If it's safe and sensible to send young men to Rwanda, why isn't it also safe and sensible to send young women and children?

The answer, we presume, is that in fact it isn't safe. There's a high risk that women and children shipped anywhere in numbers would be exploited and probably trafficked. The assumption is either that men are at a lower risk of being kidnapped, enslaved or in some other way abused or that we won't be as shocked by men being treated that way, so you can send them anywhere and let them fend for themselves

Maybe I'm being naive but I find it hard to believe they're actually serious about going through with this. I hope it's intended as a deterrent to put people off trying to make the channel crossing. Surely it would be safer to stay in France anyway? Or do they treat migrants and asylum seekers even worse than the UK does?

I really don't know what to think. It's such an astonishing proposal I can't imagine how anyone could come up with it as a serious idea.
Edit: Perhaps I should have said, I can't imagine how any normal person with a modicum of consideration for other human beings would come up with it as a serious idea.

There are countries that are already doing something similar. It's not an original idea. And there's plenty of evidence from those other countries of the problems and the high costs.
