I was wide awake at 4.30 and just getting back off to sleep when my wife's alarm went off at 6. She's still in bed an hour later, still hitting the snooze button but I decided to give up trying to sleep.

The technician turned up early to have another look at our problems with the telephone line and internet, same chap as last time and says it's the same problem that our ancient laptops etc are lower speed than the line gives us so they are trying to adjust the speed down, we will see, we waved him off with "see you again soon"!
The benefits of an early start. I've already repotted a load of plants and changed the rear brake discs and pads on the car. £180 for the parts though because the discs have the wheel bearings and abs sensor rings built in for some reason. It's not such an easy job without the right tools either. I had to use a star shaped screwdriver bit stuck into a small socket with an adapter socket on top to get a big enough breaker bar on there to release a stuck bolt. I'm not sure why normal bolts are out of fashion. It also need a 36mm hub nut socket and a 52mm socket to tap the bearing dust cover back on. I reckon the brakes would have passed the next MOT too.

Normal bolts &Allen screws have been replaced so unfranchised repair shops have to spend money on special tools and most amateurs (unlike you) can't do the job. Trying to force you to the main dealer. That was told to me by the independent repair shop I have used for many years.
I never notice canned laughter nowadays ... probably because never watch the more inane game shows. I have seen some of the US versions of Mash ... they were run late at night on an obscure channel for a while and programmed the doodah to record them ... until we watched them ... a fine programme ruined. Fortunately later on another channel ran the UK version

Well done @wild edges those bearing hub nuts are a pain in the butt. I did my sons Ford Fiesta rear shoes many years ago when he was but a lad . i took the drum off which required removing of the hub nut and on checking the workshop manual it said don't reuse the old nut when reassembling. Went and bought a replacement nut from Ford dealer £20 b**dy quid for a single hub nut, then I found it needed torqueing down to some ridicules poundage so had to go and buy another torque wrench which could reach the required torque.
Having said all that its still cheaper than putting it in the garage and I've got the tools if needed again.

Thank goodness for Haynes workshop manuals! OH used to service and maintain all our cars until we were fortunate enough to be able to afford new ones ( and of course then trapped into using main dealers to avoid invalidating the warranty) OH oftens moans that he wishes we had kept a couple of our vehicles, namely a TR6 and a VW campervan we owned in the 70s. I think he’s forgotten that they had to be sold to finance the next car. And he is definitely too old and creaky for anything that involves lying on the floor under the car!
Channel hopping the other morning to avoid all the news about strikes etc and found Animal Park. I'd avoided it for several years because of the immensely irritating Scottish woman on it who acted like an over excited 3 year old. They have a new presenter who seems to actually act like an adult. All's well until they start playing a stupid music track as accompaniment to what some of the animals were doing. They haven't done it in previous series so why now???!!!!!
