Our shower broke and then it fixed itself ( I know. Anything that breaks and fixes itself - starter motors in cars in particular - will break again) Anyway, we bought a new shower but in the meantime, it fixed itself for 5 years!. The replacement lived in the attic and fortunately we didn't put it on eBay. When the original really died, the plumber could attach it in minutes. Fortunately the replacement faced the right way whoda thought showers were directional?
We had a similar issue as our shower rail is oval so the head holder has an oval hole - nice and standard eh? But quite a few rails now have moveable fixing points (ie the fixing points slide up and down the rail as well), so the gap between screw holes is adjustable. I think we got a replacment oval head holder from the showerdoctor - https://www.showerdoc.com/shower-accessories/rail-kits - not advertising, but they may have something that suits.
I had to replace the vertical bit that holds the shower head and lets it adjust height but the shower cabin was such that the new one never felt securely fitted. However, it was good enough. Then Possum, the only one using that shower, decided to give the whole thing a deep clean and manage to break one of the moulded supports that lets the doors slide.
Could I find a replacement anywhare? Not likely.
The plumber came 2 weeks ago to demolish the old cabin and then measure up what size of new cabin would fit. That was duly ordered and installed last Monday. 2000€ parts and labour and cos it's not an exact fit for the old one I have to do some tiling work round the edges to smarten it up again. Good shower tho so worth it in the end.

Taps. I don't know if it's just me, but I expect taps to turn on anti clockwise and off clockwise. We have had some building done, and now have three sets of taps where the hot turns on anti-clockwise and the cold turns on clockwise. If you want them both on (or off) you have to turn them opposite ways. The plumber says that's just how they come. Am I going nuts?
seacrows, we have some otherwise identical taps which don’t turn on the way I expect. Had a few drenchings when I’ve accidentally turned the cold water up instead of off.
On the subject of things breaking and fixing themselves- After my sister-in-laws divorce she was always short of money. On two occasions I had replaced our TVs because the sound kept cutting out. Both times her TV packed in completely shortly after I'd bought a new one so she had our old flaky one to keep her going. Both of them worked perfectly for her for several years. The opposite happened when friends of ours needed a TV to tide them over for a few weeks as they were basically camping out in his parents house to get it ready for sale following his mother's death. Once again I'd replaced a TV but that one had been working perfectly, just didn't have HD. It had only been in the box for a few months so I assumed it would still work OK. They collected it, unpacked and plugged in the picture was unwatchable.
Now our old Canon printer is refusing to work - error message says something like the ink brush head is nearly saturated. Probably not worth trying to get it repaired so I have been looking at a replacement. I'm dithering, anybody got any recommendations please?
@Lizzie27, I have just been looking at the Which reports and it is not an easy question to answer. Do you want laser or inkjet? Colour or just black and white? Wireless or not? A high upfront cost traded off by much lower ink prices or not?
I am happy with my HP Envy 5030 which is wireless, does colour printing, photocopying and I subscribe to a monthly subscription service. For a couple of £s a month, a figure I simply don’t notice, I get about 20 ‘free’ pages a month but, what I particularly like, is the ink levels are monitored and new cartridges arrive through the post when the level drops to about 25%. I used to hate it when printing something and the ink ran out and you had to wait until the next day before getting to the supermarket to buy an inflated price cartridge.
Talking of plumbing (which I wasn't going to,) our kitchen is 'Wickes", got a small round sink,(tiny kitchen,I use a pop up drainer when required) the plug hole is big,you lift it slightly and it drains liquid, stops crap going down the pipes, but when fully closed, doesn't stop the washing up water vanishing,so hubby bought a new one yesterday. Toolstation,Wickes don't do round sinks anymore,it doesn't completely stop the water drainage. My curmudgeon, tried to call Surgery last week,26in the queue, after nearly an hour, was down to 15th, costing me a fortune. Was driving past the surgery, popped in,very nice receptionist. Wrote down details, said to book online. Tried yesterday,6 times, typed in surgery name, goes to this pink page Patient Plus,it said I wasn't recognised at this practice, the details didn't match, etc etc. Did I have an NHS app...(ie Covid)..I could login that way, tried that, got the "this email address is already in use", have I forgotten my password (of course I have) did the reset password. Every time I typed in name, address, everything. Now I should add at this point, there IS another patient living just 2 roads away with the Same first and last name, same GP I did mention this to the receptionist. The NHS site have me a box for my middle name, patient plus didn't. I was almost I'm tears,I was in agony, suddenly wondering if this other "Jane Doe" is the reason??
