Forgot to say the surgery on the BCC took about forty minutes. I was allowed to go straight home .
Thanks @Rubee , that's useful information if it turns out that BCC is what I have. Various possibilities were mentioned including freezing it with liquid nitrogen or using a cream as well as cutting it out. Nothing to do now but wait and see what the dermatology department comes back with.

35C in the shade here. We are hiding indoors with the shutters down and windows open to get the breeze. Dogs, cats and hens hiding too but the birds are very busy and noisy with it.

I suspect BCCs and melanomas will become more and more common with climate change... my parents both had BCCs and my sister (who has never sunbathed) has had two primary malignant melanomas (all successfully treated), so I'm really careful - factor 50, long sleeves, floppy hat, the lot.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
I'm careful in the sun myself, face cream with sunscreen on my face/neck/upper chest if it's not covered every day of the year, proper sunscreen if it's sunny and I'm going to be outside, and I prefer to stay in the shade when it's hot anyway. But I used to get sunburned most years as a child (this was the early-mid 70s, sunscreen was for well-off people on foreign holidays and factor 6 was a high factor if I remember rightly) so I guess damage was done then.

Some people's skin seems to be able to tolerate sun better than others, but anyone can get skin cancer and some types are killers if allowed to spread. Be careful out there folks, and keep an eye out for changes in your skin. I was told that even if mine turns out to benign, getting it looked at sooner rather than later was the right thing to do.

It seems a lot cooler here too, but the thermometers only show it 3 or 4 degrees down at 28C.
