I'll give the DVLA another week, I've sent them an email (and had an acknowledgement!). It mentions an 8 week period on the website. I was already aware that you are allowed to carry on driving (providing there are no medical queries) whilst waiting for a renewed licence.
On another curmudgeon, I've had yet another over-large and very expensive joint of lamb delivered from SM (£21.06!!!) the use-by date was today (so no good for Sunday's roast) and the plastic had been punctured. I rang up to complain, was refunded the whole £21.06 and was told NOT to take the meat back to my local store. What a waste! I've actually just cooked it and will freeze it in two halves for future use. Couldn't bring myself to just throw it away. I know the SM's have current problems but this kind of thing must cost them thousands.
I'd be concerned about the puncture. A lot of meat is packed in a way that extends the shelf life. Once opened, the clock starts ticking. It is important to know when the puncture occurred.
I'm with @Lizzie27 on the meat, though. If it looked and smelt ok I'd cook it, no hesitation, even if the packaging was punctured. I buy my meat from the local butcher and it's not plastic wrapped, and doesn't have a "use by" date. I'm happy that cooking the meat will deal with any bugs on the surface., and that my eyes and nose will tell me if it's OK to eat.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
@Liriodendron, I did the smell test and the blood looked and smelt quite fresh so happy to cook it. Now in the freezer. I know I've now got two meals for nothing but it feels wrong and the error in picking the wrong weight/price is annoying. It's not the first time.
Grin and bear it @Lizzie27. I'd have probably cut it in two and frozen it raw but then I usually bone and butterfly a leg of lamb anyway to make 2 or 3 meals.

They went up to Kent at the weekend, the bush broke, called the AA they wouldn’t help because it was on the advisory note. He had to get a private breakdown service to bring them home, cost £1,200. And they did it in relays, took from 6.45pm to 4.30am. To get them home.
I had been an AA member for years and then had three incidents where they either wouldn't help or charged me extra over the (very considerable) membership costs. I think they've had the loss adjustors in and are pursuing a policy of finding excuses not to provide help. OH had the windscreen smash when he was driving on the motorway - they wouldn't come because glass isn't a mechanical failure, even though he was stranded on the hard shoulder. I ran over some broken glass on the road and punctured two tyres. They came out but charged me for the recovery vehicle to take the car to a tyre repair place because they said it was classed as a 'collision'. Third time, the car was in an unsurfaced church car park when it broke down. They refused to come out because they said it was 'off road' based on what they could see on their google map or whatever it is they use.
