When we were in the USA my wife was stopped when we got off an internal flight.  The lady who stopped her could see she was concerned and told her not to worry it really was entirely random, based on ticket numbers.  I had both pieces of hand luggage and asked if she wanted my wife's.  She declined, saying this is only going to take a few seconds, and it did.

If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

I went to Malta years ago with a friend and her OH. We were all stopped and interrogated at customs. Based on the questions we were asked, we suspect they thought that friend's boyfriend and I were actually family members of locals and pretending not to be. I still can't figure out why that made us dangerous.

The trouble is, not all people who would make a good, hard working MP look good or perform well on television.
It takes a certain kind of person to be able to successfully fake sincerity and commitment on television. We have plenty of those.

Soon after the shoe bomber episode we were on a tour of the US with a bunch of academics who would be recognised as boffins by any newsroom. As we were foreigners travelling on a sequence of one way tickets the entirely random security checks picked us out every time. We all saw the funny side of it eventually and all queued up with our socks and shoes in our hands for the flights much to the bemusement of the check-in staff. When we told them we were just pre-empting the upcoming frisking they assured us there was no need as the checks were truly random, then we all got randomly picked again  :D
Then I got held at gunpoint as the freshly printed brochures I was carrying were apparently made of some explosive material according to their swab machine.

Its not "entirely random" when your in a wheelchair I can assure. Every and I mean every time we've travelled the wife is stopped and searched. Wheelchair swiped for who knows what and then patted down.
If your disabled and in a wheelchair your deliberately targeted for a search because they cant put you through the scanner because of the metal in the wheelchair.
