I think I'd be inclined to go with @JennyJ - pots of Daffs or other Spring bulbs if it needs to be low maintenance.  Does your Mum have an outside area/garden where the bulbs could be planted or potted up when they have  gone over so they wouldn't just be a "one off" ?
It's always a bit difficult to make suggestions - everyone likes different flowers/scent etc. but just be aware that shops and garden outlets will bump up their prices prior to any "special day".
Hope you find something suitable :)

Edited to add    Sorry Jenny - didn't realise I had repeated your advice before I posted.

  • I have just purchased a Sansevieria, on the label it describes it as rough and tough. It does have another name Mother in laws tongue. It is a present for my son in law's birthday! This would be more expensive to buy than the other plants I mentioned earlier.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.

Lots of things will do well there! Cacti, succulents, Kalanchoe (flaming Katy) are nice for flowers and usually widely available, same for pelargoniums, Tradescantia for trailers, some types of palm or dracaena or a yucca for a big statement, coleus for colourful foliage, maybe gardenia for scented flowers..... Here's the RHS's list for more ideas - scroll down to the section for sun.
Some of the houseplants that are widely available would not be happy there though - for example avoid calatheas and marantas, they'd just burn up.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained

    Thank you,

She does have an outside garden but not a keen gardener unfortunately.

Interesting choices Jenny and thank you for the advise.

Hmm  -  that does rather reduce the possibilities altho the bulbs wouldn't really need that much care once planted.
Some of the houseplants mentioned in other's posts could be a better bet but only if your Mum can/wants to care for them to ensure survival.
If all else fails, a large box of posh chocolates perhaps ?  ;)

Haha, not a bad shout. Who doesn't like chocolate!
  • Perhaps a box of Roses.

  • They grow on you!
(for those of us of a certain age).
Good luck, @stephanepatteuxP4YZaBYT . I hope your mum will love what you eventually choose.
