Just sat having a cold drink with OH by our Pond and look what was about , know the first two but the one which landed on my sun hat a mystery . Sure one of you would know
We’ve not seen it before either so look at the data it was last spotted 2022 so that’s in the area of Leicester at Charnwood Lodge , is it quite rare then? . It just flew away after a few seconds or so with just enough time to take a pic. It won’t be long before the Dragonflies start crawling out and onto the reeds to come out, we love it !will post some pics .
Macro photography really does show you just how weird insects are. I thought this bee was either trying to eat another bug or maybe it was being attacked by a parasite trying to enter it's mouth but no this is just how normal bee mouth parts look I thought they just had a tongue but it's a whole complex mechanism at work. There's a cool infographic video here that shows how it all works https://www.museumoftheearth.org/bees/biology
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
Macro images don't come much better than that @wild edges
Looks like you are mastering that lens.
I'm struggling a bit with it to be honest. It's a whole new set of skills to learn compared to be old lens and totally different settings. Hitting the focus point is an art in itself. I keep getting dizzy from holding my breath for too long My main reason to get the lens though was for micro moths and I'm getting way better results already. Below is the same moth in different lighting conditions so you can see just how tricky it is to just get the lighting right. I just need a lot more practice at the moment.
