It turns out that eevil vine weevils are attracted to the UV light of the moth trap. Any that manage the long walk to investigate the pretty light get promptly dealt with and I usually leave the bodies on the stone wall for the scavengers. Last night I forgot to dispose of the evidence and this spider ran out of his hole and legged it with one of the dead weevils. Nothing legs it quite like a spider.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
Not an insect but this tiny arachnid was running around like a mad thing under the moth trap last night. Just posting it as a bit of interest to gardeners as this is a predatory 'whirlygig' spider mite and not the normal red spider mite that is a greenhouse pest. These guys prey on aphids so think twice before killing all red-coloured mites on sight.
