Drone fly on the coltsfoot flowers today.

I'm ticking my way through the spring moth list tonight. Five new species already in just a couple of hours. The highlight so far is this Hebrew Character.
Also this nice pair: Clouded Drab on the left and Common Quaker on the right.

They are all very classy and composed. I love the names best.

I just added an Oak Beauty and The Chestnut to the list. There's also a March Tubic and what I hope is a Brindled Pug but so many of the pug moths look the same. Hopefully someone on iNaturalist will confirm that one.

  • A Harlequin Ladybird, an alien species spreading from the south-east of England, this is the first one I have seen here. Although it is extremely variable, it is easily identified by its orange legs and underside.

The final moth count last night was 15 moths of 10 species, 8 of which were new for my garden list which now stands at 170 species.
    Another Hebrew Character.
and a Twin Spot Quaker that I found while emptying the egg boxes. I need to stop using this purple box. It's not very photogenic :#
Two moth wanabees: This moth fly
    and a caddisfly

Had a comma butterfly the other day. Very early for us.
Brimstones, peacocks, small blue still around the garden and so many different bees (sorry not good at ID).

Finally seen my first butterfly of the year. Couldn't get a picture,  but I think it was a small Tortoiseshell.
