Finally seen my first butterfly of the year. Couldn't get a picture,  but I think it was a small Tortoiseshell.
Yeah, I saw my first small tortoiseshell of the year this weekend, feeding on some forget-me-nots.

I've noticed before in the GW magazine, articles on beneficial insects that has pictures of ladybirds (everyone knows what they look like) and says "but the larvae are also excellent), but they don't show them! In the April RHS The Garden, there's a picture of the Marmalade Hoverfly, saying "the larvae of which consume hundreds of aphids" - but again - no picture of the larvae. Would be useful to have a crib sheet wouldn't it?

@fire thanks. I/we can look up larvae we are told are useful but we can't keep running in and out to check various insects/larvae we find in the garden (they've always moved by the time you get back).

Still too cold for mothing so I have to put up with boring butterflies :(
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
