I do like to give the area where they grow a load of well rotted manure ,(a large trug bucket full per sq yard) plus a handful of Blood fish and bone per square yard (100g per square metre if you're posh)before I put the plants in.  However if I don't get round to it, they just get the BFB.

I think I know what has happened: War garden’s account has been hacked by his scamp of a brother. War garden 1 says plant sweet corn 7” apart and then that rascal War garden 2 chimes in with ‘No, it should be 15” ’. You can plant late maturing varieties says the O.P ... stuff and nonsense says his brother, it’s got to be early varieties.

I can’t wait for the discussion to move on to how to pronounce clematis.

They need room for the leaves to catch ambient light.

but plants 17in apart.   you can have rows 6 in apart
and plant 8.8 in apart or row 8in apart and plants 10 in

@war garden 572 have you ever lived in the UK?  Visited the UK?
Please may we see a photo of your own garden/yard/crops.  Lead by example, please, not by rote.
    I am interested.
    What varieties do you grow?
Soil, terroir, aspect, fertilizer, watering  frequency and how (including hardness of the water), average summer temps, day length,  altitude, area you cultivate,  yield of potatoes and corn - and other crops, how much time you spend daily on crops, crop rotation, crop protection from predators and - oh yes - your horticultural qualifications and experience  They must be very impressive if you know such luminaries as Joy Larkcom. Have you ever won 'best of produce' in your local show? Do tell.

We all will be most interested in your illuminating response.
