I do like to give the area where they grow a load of well rotted manure ,(a large trug bucket full per sq yard) plus a handful of Blood fish and bone per square yard (100g per square metre if you're posh)before I put the plants in. However if I don't get round to it, they just get the BFB.
I think I know what has happened: War garden’s account has been hacked by his scamp of a brother. War garden 1 says plant sweet corn 7” apart and then that rascal War garden 2 chimes in with ‘No, it should be 15” ’. You can plant late maturing varieties says the O.P ... stuff and nonsense says his brother, it’s got to be early varieties.
I can’t wait for the discussion to move on to how to pronounce clematis.

nope i was proving that you can plant closer than 18in from uk source. but you can also have rows 12 in apart but plants 17in apart. you can have rows 6 in apart and plant 8.8 in apart or row 8in apart and plants 10 in apart and plants 14in apart. thanks to Pythagorean theorem if offset space the plants
@war garden 572 have you ever lived in the UK? Visited the UK? Please may we see a photo of your own garden/yard/crops. Lead by example, please, not by rote. I am interested. What varieties do you grow? Soil, terroir, aspect, fertilizer, watering frequency and how (including hardness of the water), average summer temps, day length, altitude, area you cultivate, yield of potatoes and corn - and other crops, how much time you spend daily on crops, crop rotation, crop protection from predators and - oh yes - your horticultural qualifications and experience They must be very impressive if you know such luminaries as Joy Larkcom. Have you ever won 'best of produce' in your local show? Do tell.
We all will be most interested in your illuminating response.
I accept I am new here and others have way more knowledge and have contributed lots of good advice etc for many years however I do feel a rather nasty tone emerging on this thread. Someone has posted, rightly or wrongly on a topic that’s of interest to them. They may be genuine, they may be not. Posters have rightly challenged the information they feel is incorrect. What I don’t get is the way people who feel this thread is wrong/they know better etc are returning time and again to post further comments. If this is of no interest to you or you don’t agree then why do you keep commenting, after you have said your piece? This site has many people from all walks of life, from all over the world with all levels of knowledge and ability. so while it is predominantly UK focused there are many others on here. Maybe pause and count to 10 asking yourself what is the point/aim of your post before typing, as looking in from outside, it looks like a bit like class of school kids picking on someone who’s not in their gang. Can you not just ignore a thread rather than goading someone. As I say, sorry if this sound harsh but as a newbie here I love the great info and help so many of you offer and I want to stay around, but if this is the tone I guess I may look elsewhere for my help.
