I have rung Hosta on his landline (he doesn't 'do' mobiles) but no answer ... I've left a message saying we're just checking that he's not been blown away ...

Has anyone heard from Hostafan or Lynn? Not seen anything from them today. I hope it's just power or Internet problems.
Reporting in, no problems here, power flashed off in the middle of last night, I couldn’t make out what the orange flashing light was lighting up the bedroom, apart from that, nothing. I remember some years ago losing the whole length of fencing in a gale, no one ever found the panels, god knows how far they went. Builder came round and asked if he could give me a quote to replace roof tiles! Compared to Cornwall and some other places, we did well yesterday.

Glad most of us seem to have escaped the worst. My son got safely back to his home in Bournemouth, then told me they were driving up to Stansted later that evening as holiday flight booked for early am today! Haven't heard anything so must presume they got safely there. Rather him than me, he was his usual calm, laid back self.
Apart from the arbour blowing over and some minor damage to a polycarbonate cold frame lid, we got off lightly. Plants and pots all seem to be okay. Drove through Bath to the other side to collect a new stick vacuum cleaner this morning and didn't see much damage/uprooted trees etc. so that's all good. Cleaner now assembled and charging up.

Hosta phoned back ... he's fine and sends love to all ... he has heat and power but no t'internet ... 'they' say they'll fix it within 72 'working hours' ... what's 'working hours' for a t'internet repair person Hosta wants to know.
Anyway, he visited his OH this morning, and he's as ok as can be expected ...... the rest of the day Hosta has spent in the polytunnels enjoying himself ... the polytunnels are ok and apart from a few branches down etc all seems well and Hosta Towers. He'll be back with us asap.

Thank you for letting us know Dove. It's good to hear that things are ok...ish there. We don't realise how much we take the internet for granted until we haven't got it.
Well, that was an interesting day or two. Reading back, looks like most are OK. Have we heard from @wild edges?
It was pretty hairy for a couple of hours on Friday morning and not much better until well into the evening. We lost a bit more roof from sheds and outhouses, one tile of the main house roof which is, frankly, miraculous it wasn't worse. OH will fix it all when the weather's calm enough to go up a ladder. We lost power late morning yesterday as well as mobile signal. Just got power back an hour ago, so spent last night 'glamping' in our house - cooked dinner on the log burner (chilli from the defrosting freezer), reading by torchlight and burning Mum's Christmas candles. Sounds kind of romantic but not really when it's so cold and there are stones and stuff bouncing off the windows. And then it was hailing. Which was nice. This morning we could see two fence panels had come down, so patched those up to keep the dogs from chasing next door's cat, went and picked up all the bits of roof from the garden, collected a load of kindling from under our old beech tree, which, thankfully survived. The polytunnel is still there. The fruit cage is at a rather rakish angle. The veg patch fence is mostly lying flat so the bunnies will be feasting on my chard, but hard to begrudge them a decent meal in this weather. A lovely old oak tree by the road came down onto the phone line and blocked the road. The tree surgeons are there now (in the dark) clearing the road. Amazingly, the phone line seems to be working.
OH managed to get hold of a petrol generator this morning so we were able to get some water back on and he also bought the last camping stove in the camping shop so we could have a slightly more conventional dinner this evening. There are still problems on the network so I am not confident we'll keep the power on. Everything that needs charging is plugged in and I'm just catching up with messages etc.
The week is looking a bit blowy, isn't it? I'm off to catch up on the news - we've been completely cut off but I imagine someone would have mentioned if Russia had invaded another country in the last 36 hours...
