Morning all. What a morning it's been. The car , 3 in front of me, was in collision with another vehicle just before i came round the bend. Went to make sure they were ok and reassured both drivers that they being unhurt was the most important thing and not to worry about both vehicles being "right offs" Huge diversion to get to The Home. Hubby was a bit grumpy as I was late, but he soon settled. The road was still closed when I left as were 2 others on the way home. Stopped at Waitrose and saw a colleague I've not seen for months. His daughter was born in August even though she wasn't due until December. She weighed 1lb 10 oz and spend 111 days in hospital and is homw now and up to 7lbs 6oz. Don't you just LOVE the NHS?
I'm sorry about your friend @punkdoc. Glad you came thru tho and hope the brighter days will be more numerous with fewer black dog days as spring advances.
It's dull and grey here but not as cold tho there is a naughty wind making it feel colder. I have to go and see a man about a new kitchen unit today. The sick 5 yr old dishwasher is going to cost 250€ to repair plus travel costs for the engineer who took it away and will bring it back. Not impressed at all with Electrolux (oven has also needed major surgery after just 4 years).
We have an older and still reliable Bosch dishwasher in the pantry so I'm toying with filling the hole in the kitchen with more storage drawers if we can get the same fascia and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg.
Will you go for wood or modern materials for your door @Busy-Lizzie?
Hugs to anyone feeling poorly or low. Hope it all gets better.

Just reading back and hearing you talk about the NHS reminded me of when my son was on the ventilator and they wanted to try and get him off it and give him a Tracheostomy, his wife would go and stand outside his window looking up because she couldn't visit, the nurses held up a large written board saying "he is ok all is well", I just love the NHS also.
@Busy-Lizzie You seem to be having a spate of high maintenance with the new house.
Another very windy day. We had great gusts of wind yesterday afternoon which blew some tiles off the garage roof. Luckily a builder came after work and gathered the broken tiles on the roof - he will replace and repair the roof when the time is more clement.
@Obelixx If you have any of the Brico stores around you, their quality is now just as good as the kitchen shops. You can buy most of the kitchen accessories (turning tables for angled cupboards, silent drawers that self-close etc.) So unless you need to match the cupboard doors.....
Back from the dentist's minus a tooth and a pocketful of antibiotics, mouthwash and painkillers. Two quotes for my private insurance, 1 for a bridge and 1 for an implant. Both about the same price but I'm not insured for implants so there won't be much of a payment there. The tooth is in fact, one behind the canine so I'm wondering whether it will be worth it to just leave it and maybe put the money to future dentistry. Oh, the joys of getting old!
Restful afternoon with my book. And hoping you all can have a restful afternoon
How sad @punkdoc - and how caring of you to keep in touch. The NHS is a National Treasure. Which is why US healthcare wants to get it's grubby mitts on it. We must resist and if that means overthrowing this govt., well, c'est la vie! Can't advise on dentistry @tui34 - if I could afford implants, that's what I would have. Instead a have a little plate with a few back teeth on it that I never wear, despite it costing ££££s. Still not quite as much as one implant would cost. Off to the picture framers this afternoon to have the painting I bought from a friend framed. May pick up some ready made frames for some prints that have been hanging around waiting for frames too.
Yes @floralies. I do need to match the front of the unit. The kitchen is only 5 years old too and local so it should still be possible.
Not everyone has good experiences with the NHS. I haven't both as a child and as an adult and in two of the biggest teaching hospitals too. OH's family has mixed experiences - not fit for purpose in Worcester, great in Liverpool, mixed in north Lancashire. Still better, I suppose, than the US system if you can't fund private care but there are better managed systems by far in other countries.

It were me @Obelixx Just a word of advice - check the height of the old kitchen units on either side because the new measures are a few centimetres higher and cannot be adjusted at the base.
@didyw Thank goodness for masks here - still mandatory in France. I can get a little tooth on a plate for 275euros made until the cavity closes - about 2 months. But - what the heck?!! I will just wear my mask and not smile or grimace too much at the gym!!

Update on the 6 year out of date savoury rice. I ate it last night and it was fine.
That's sad news @punkdoc about your new acquaintance. How kind of you to keep in touch with him. It's nice when people enquire how you are getting on.
