I remember the optimism. When did that die?
I wonder if that was one of the worst things that was taken from our children.
    In London. Keen but lazy.

@pansyface - I agree. I freely admit that I often spoil my girls. I had to work hard for everything I got, but at least I managed to get my foot on the property ladder, despite the hideous interest rates at the time. My Dad gave me a small amount of money to help initially, because I had no chance of getting enough for a deposit. I see myself as a custodian of the money I've inherited, and despite all the trauma I experienced a decade ago, I count myself lucky. My girls also had that trauma, so if I can help my younger daughter get on the property ladder, without the stress I had, then I'll do that. In fact, I'm doing it later this year. The other one will never be able to live by herself. They both have enough crap to cope with, every day.
It's the least I can do for them. They didn't ask to be born. My responsibility until I pop my clogs.

Going back hundreds of years is what I thought when I read this the other day

No wonder we still have the sh*te going on that we do. Words fail me.

I should think quite a lot of that money was spent getting someone to design the logo

Mr P. and I were just saying the other day how lucky our generation had been.
Yes. But those of us who are not baby boomers are not allowed to point it out.

  • Medals aren't everything ... it aint the winning, it's the taking part ;) ... and the funding is to encourage more folk to take part in some/any sort of activity which will keep us reasonably fit and so not increasing the pressure on our wonderful NHS 💙 any more than we can help ... even me and my once a week session of old crocks' indoor tennis which makes a noticeable difference to my blood pressure.

Yeah, but skeleton? Sliding down a mountain on a tea tray? I'll accept your argument for cycling or tennis or marathon running, even skiing & snowboarding. But not for bobsleigh or skeleton or the other variations that just use a slightly different shaped tray and different numbers of people on it. I very much doubt anyone watches that and thinks 'I'll give that a go' unless they are already fairly committed athletes

Unless you have slid down a mountain on a tea tray, you will never know just how exciting it is.
Have you never experienced the joy of sledging?
