Planting compost on special offer today at France Rurale and, for the first time here, a big "peat free" label on the bags. We bought 4 70litre bags to celebrate.

Watching the Winter Olympics and there was a protest after the final of the women's Ski Cross after 3rd and 4th positions were reversed for an apparent offence. The protest wasn't by the girl who lost 3rd, it was by the one promoted from 4th. She believes it was a simple racing incident. Last they showed was the two girls heading off together to see the judges.

My reason to be cheerful is that I saw a flower bloom before my very eyes! I have some iris reticulata in a pot outside my kitchen window and I was in the kitchen and thought I saw movement in the flowers in my peripheral vision. I took a closer look and actually watched the petals spring open and settle into position. It felt like a very special experience and like I was watching my own little natural history documentary.
