The amelanchier blossom was pretty spectacular this year!!
Quick snap of the back border, starting to fill out nicely but still some gaps in the middle, there’s nothing growing up that obelisk yet but I’m going to get a clematis for it.
Work on the veg garden has started, I’ve finished painting the fence, lifted the old slabs and removed the gravel in front of the compost bins, and put some new, smaller slabs in, and I’ve made a start on removing the turf! I’ve also sealed all of the wood for the beds, so I’m ready to start building them once I’ve prepped the ground!
@TheGreenMan I think you are probably right there 😆 I’ll probably use them to edge the new tree I planted out the front last week! I wish there’d been enough to use for a path but digging up that many would have been a pain, as you well know, so I will be content with my 5 & 1/2 bricks 🤣
Excellent comments here but in case I missed it due to the number of comments use a garden hose to lay out possible designs. View from a high point. Once satisfied spray the out line with a can of white spray paint and check again. Then get stuck in.
Finished digging today and built the beds, finally!!!!
I used a waterproof sealer on all of the boards before assembling, and I’ve put a small trench of pea gravel in so the boards aren’t sitting on the soil, these are oak boards as well so I’m hoping they last a good long while! I ran out of pea gravel so I’ve put one bed back in the garage until I get some more, hoping to get back to it and start on the paths next weekend but we’ll see what the weather is doing!
That is a lot of hard work @zugenie and I hope the amelanchier flowered before any heavy rain? Your garden is going to be even more productive and it looks so organised as well as attractive. I particularly like how your black compost bins blend in with the black fences. Can I ask what your flowering standards are in your pots in your last photo? They look gorgeous!

@clematisdorset it did manage to flower before the rain, I think we got one sunny day with the blossom then a week of rain 😆
If you saw the rest of it I don’t think you’d say it was organised at the moment!! I need to book a skip to get rid of the turf and other junk that’s come out of the garden!
The flowering standards are syringa palibin, they smell gorgeous! We used to have them in the front garden at our last house and people would always stop for a sniff 😆 they’re one of my favourite things I’ve bought!
Oh it is often the way I have found too @zugenie, with the rain and blossom. Your Amelanchier looks magnificent, a lovely shape too. It is amazing how much accumulates! I am going to look up syringa palibin, especially as you say they smell so good too. That is always a plus in my book and I salute you for enhancing your neighbourhood streets previously, I wish more people could plant lovely greenery and flowers, by pavements - it would make the world a better place!

@TheGreenMan found some bricks today, nothing near your haul sadly, but was glad to have something useful!
What you gonna do with them?
