    Here is New Year dinner.
Don't think I'll be coming for dinner. Nowhere near enough gravy
There was plenty more in the jug, you should have said!

If I was particularly partial to fried foods, I would make the effort @Fire
    In London. Keen but lazy.

I'll second your recommendation for "magic erasers", @Fire.  They're great for removing stubborn marks from emulsion, even the "non-washable" sort of paint - including scuff marks from trainers etc.  Strange things though, looking like ordinary sponges but very gradually disappearing as you use them...
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

The Pink Stuff is great for jewellery too @Fire, as well as other things like brass.
I have a silver napkin ring that was my Mum's, and I'd tried the usual flour and lemon juice paste [also very good] but it wasn't getting it really clean. I wasn't convinced about it, but it's brilliant, and so is the napkin ring  ;)

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Yes and from me too Fairygirl. Had a Google and it seems to be popular. It's on my shopping list now.

I don't think it was expensive - I got the smallest tub.  :)
I have a brass bell that I loved when I was little [my Mum's] and it was good on that too.
I haven't yet tried it on my Grandpa's brass box from the 1st World War, but when it needs done, I'll use it.

It's going for £2 a kilo on the Sains website.

If I remember correctly - the small tub was around 90 pence or £1. Asda - so I get a discount too  ;)

  • I'm bookmarking this thread for later -thanks for all the recs!

This Christmas my sister bought one of the most useful gadgets I've ever seen - an ice cube tray with a silicon bottom to push the cubes out, as well as a lid to prevent water spillage in the freezer. Simple but ingenious. When begged for details of where she got it, all she can say is a cookshop somewhere in Northumberland ... aargh.

My sister was also responsible for getting me the absolute worst gadget ever as a joke: the Eggmaster (after we read this infamous review in the Guardian gadget column: https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2015/jul/15/kitchen-gadgets-review-egg-master-horrifying-unholy-affair ). We tried it out and the resulting column of egg was exactly as monstrous as the review suggests; we were screaming with laughter!
