I've just got my new one @didyw [sorry!] and what's even better is - I went to collect daughter from work, and she'd picked it up for me. However, I'd gone down the aisle with the kettles etc, and saw they had some. I'd ordered one for collecting because they'd had none in stock. Daughter took it to the desk as a return, and I got one off the shelf - which meant I could use my discount card, so another 2 quid off. Result!
We never have to descale - good water up here

I really hope they have the same make (Breville) in stock @Fairygirl. OH bought this a few years ago at half-price after we had a succession of short-lived kettles and I have been really pleased with it. So cross with myself! Good luck finding a nice toaster @ergates. Our old one finally gave up the ghost after 20 years of service but as I can no longer eat bread (unless gluten-free) we didn't bother getting another one. If we want toast we do it old school under the grill.
May be worth looking for a new water filter too @didyw? I use a water filter and have never had to descale a kettle. Is limescale that bad in your area?
Re toasters - my daughter was telling me yesterday that a big manufacturer decided to address 'toasters' and make one which was indestructible and made perfect toast etc. Even the sceptics agreed it was faultless.
It cost £300 and could only do one slice. Smashing....

Hi @Plantminded - yes, we are in a very hard water area here in Suffolk. The kettle is (was) glass and the limescale collected at the bottom and long a vertical metal bit linking the bottom to the top. It never gets as bad as it did before we got the water filter (Brita) and we probably don't change the filter in that often enough but a distilled vinegar treatment every so often kept it clean.
Tap water down here is as hard as rocks. I tend to brush the deposits off the inside of the kettle before it really gets a chance to harden. Not too keen on using chemical descalers. Not keen on using water filters either, always worried that they might filter out all the useful stuff like fluoride.

I don't think they add fluoride to the water in Devon. Haven't checked it in the last couple of years - we're not on mains water anyway
@raisingirl, negligible amounts in most of the country. However, I suppose on principle, I’m averse to the idea of tampering with tap water when generally, so much effort has gone into making it safe and palatable.
I don't like chemical descalers either @Ergates, which is why I used distilled vinegar. When we drink water we drink it from the tap, or fill up our water bottles from the tap. We think our water is delicious! The filter is only for the kettle.
