Take care outside @Songbird-1 so sorry about the archway. I'm sure the Clematis will survive, perhaps tie it together and cut back early next year. Do hope all your lovely plants are ok. The storm of 87 was horrendous here too. No damage really where I was living then, but others in our road weren't so lucky. I can still remember the howling winds. Nobody else in the house woke up! 🤷🏻♀️ Hope your garden is ok @Ladybird4 Hopefully not too much water in the bin!
Goodness @Ante30 … it seems like only yesterday (although a lot has happened since). Our area was devastated … at that time I was married to a builder …. he was very busy helping to make buildings safe …. farmers were cutting up and hauling huge trees that had fallen across roads and lanes and retrieving straying animals. Villagers were making sure that those in outlying homes had food and fuel etc, especially the elderly, infirm or those with babies … and as no one had any power the local pub which had a solid fuel cooker made arrangements to cook whatever folk brought them from their defrosting freezers and fed the community for free. The damage was horrendous but everyone rallied round.
Nowadays it may be different because of the worries around Covid of course. 😢

@Dovefromabove it was awful wasn't it 😥 we didn't have electricity or main phone lines. We were also without water for awhile and had bottles of water delivered to to everyone. Thankfully we had a gas oven then. Six of the famous oak trees in Seven Oaks fell, but have been replaced since.
@star gaze lily my sister in law was 9 months pregnant and the narrow lane to their farmhouse was blocked by many fallen trees … arrangements were made so that should she go into labour she should contact the nearby RAF base via the farm (CB radio) who would send a helicopter for her … fortunately niece delayed her arrival a few days and Bro was able to get them to the hospital by car. 😊

Fence panels, wheelie bins and plants have been busy overnight but I couldn't find any major damage this morning, thankfully. Hope nobody suffers too much as a result of Arwen
Oh my goodness @Dovefromabove that would have been so scary for SIL. Thankfully your little niece felt cosy inside and decided to stay awhile longer 😊 @Biglad do hope your garden is ok.
The storm sounds frightening Hazel. I hope you can get the roof tile replaced quickly.
There was a huge storm, hurricane, in France in the winter of 1999. A big oak tree fell on the spare room dormer window and the drive, 1km long was blocked by fallen trees. We were without water, electricity or phone for about 10 days. Used the swimming pool for flushing the loo and washing. Local farmers cleared the drive in a couple of days. I was so grateful to them. Water was heavy to carry from the village shop 25 mins walk away. Luckily I had a fireplace and gas for cooking.
We are off to the Farmers Market in the village hall.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Good morning SGL, Ante, Dove, Biglad and Busy. My garden is not too bad SGL and I've had a visual check of the roof - front and rear - and all seems well.
Ante - at least I didn't get any snow. Chey sent me a picture of Buxton this morning and it is covered with snow. Thank goodness he finally got his roof repaired. Still no signs of decoration being done though. I filled my bird feeders this morning and resident robin came down to the back step to feed from the feeder as I filled it up. That way he doesn't have to battle with the sparrows.
Poor Hazel, my heart goes out to you facing all that devastation. I would be so upset too.
It is good to hear that you escaped any serious trouble Biglad.
I echo Hazel in saying I'm glad so far that the Rezzers here so far have all been safe themselves. I do hope Chive, Yvie, Debs and all their families are safe too.
Enjoy the Farmers Market Busy.

Ladies, I really can't remember that storm at '87. I was -1 year old 😁.
