Hello all. Good grief Hazel, what a saga about your toilet seat. Mind you, it did make me go and look at mine and I have no clue as to how mine would come off - don't ask me to get down and try to look underneath as I wouldn't be able to get up again.
T'Bird, I'm glad that you asked RosieBB about the tea as I'm totally mystified too. Come on RosieBB, put us out of our misery.
Speaking of DIY (and I have looked on YouTube) I cannot for the life of me undo the filter on my washing machine to clean it. I must have tightened it with a vengeance the last time I was able to undo it. Has anyone any tips as to how I could loosen the cap. I might need some brute force. I'm loath to try anything too radical as it is just a plastic wingnut type fastener and knowing my luck I'd end up snapping the 'fins' off. Any advice gratefully received.

LB - Hazel's suggestion of a rubber grip is a good one - I'd certainly try rubber gloves if you have nothing else to hand. I know what you mean about breaking stuff by trying to force it. Maybe lots of slow but increasing degrees of pressure?
Can't think of anything you can spray on. If push really comes to shove you could try a few squirts of WD40 trying to force it in the 'barrel'. Wipe all the surplus off the outside and leave it for a few hours. Repeat and leave it a few more hours before trying to move it.
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
Thanks Hazel and T'Bird. I do have one of those rubber grp things so I'll try the gentle and often approach tomorrow and I've also got some WD40 in the garage - cunning plan B.
I am watching The Wild Gardener Hazel, I love it. Thats how my garden is grown.
Ruby you have snow too? Please keep it on your side of the Pennines Good night to you Ruby.

Hazel I woke up with the wind too it kept turning the emergency lights on, blowing a wild hooley out their and heavy rain. I’ve made a cuppa and watching a shopping channel. I hope you managed to get back to sleep.
Oh my goodness Hazel that sounds horrendous. I do hope that there isn’t any damage to your home. Please be careful . Bluebell please don’t venture out today .I hope everyone is safe .I haven’t looked outside yet !
Good morning Hazel, RosieBB and everyone. Oh my goodness what an horrendous night. Hazel my roof tiles were rattling like mad and oh so loudly. Scares the life out of me when they do that. I've been out to bring in my milk bottle and I thought I would just check the bins to make sure none had gone walkabout. The wind had lifted the lid on my general waste bin, and because it was dark and I couldn't see it, I didn't realise that the lid was full of rain water which then cascaded into the bin as I closed it. Heaven only knows if there is lots more water in the bin already.
I am so sorry to hear of your garden damage Hazel and I hope that most things will be salvageable. I will know more about my garden when it get lighter. Your clematis should be OK and recover.
I do hope that everyone else is safe and hasn't suffered any major damage to properties and gardens.
p.s. RosieBB, I meant to say that my security light was triggered often through the night also.

Morning everyone, goodness it was windy last night. Didn't sleep very well. Oh @Songbird-1 your night sounds horrendous. Your poor garden, do hope you can repair your arches and the plants are ok. You must be so very tired. Have a lazy restful day. It was windy here but nothing like your night. Just peeked outside, think everything is ok. Have the poppets and their mummy and daddy coming today Take care everyone, stay ndoors in the warm.
Oh dear Hazel, try to rest today as much as you can. We had a similar weather here too. So sorry that your garden is damaged.
SGL, enjoy with your poppets today.
LB, sorry to hear that you also had a horrible weather. I'm glad that you don't have any damage on your house.
Here is cold and rainy morning. Rain didn't stop last two days and it will continue till next week, when we can expect ❄❄. Autumn this year is pretty much rough around here so far. I must prepare my advent wreath with candles. Tomorrow we must light first one. That means, only four weeks till Christmas. Now tea and I must refill bird feeders. It was impossible this earlier because of rain.
