Ask any family who are planning to buy you a Christmas present if they’d like to make a small donation instead! ( You might need to specify the small amount, so you don’t accidentally end up with enough money for two)
really? If I asked all my family who are planning to buy me a Christmas present to donate £10 to the 'new cardigan' fund, I'd have £10. I suppose I'd get a new jumper in 20 years, depending how much the price of them goes up in that time

@pansyface most Lateral Flow test kits are available free of charge from pharmacies ...

We just picked a box up at the chemist. Have they stopped distributing them this way?

Driving up our road on the way home and there was paper and plastic bottles flying everywhere.  It's blowing a gale but the bin men thought it would be a good idea to take the lids off all the recycling bins. Presumably to make it easier for the recycling crew to see what's in what.  I have been home nearly an hour now and the bins still haven't been emptied.  I've put the lids back on, and a brick on each, to keep stuff in.
  • Just get someone to pick some up from a nearby pharmacy ... I've never come across one that doesn't have a big stock of them.

  • You used to be able to get lateral flow kits from pharmacy just by asking , last time I tried was told you had to order in advance. The good news is a kit contains several tests the ones I got had 7 in, so once you have a pack even at 2 tests a week you have 2-3 weeks worth for two people.

I just asked at our small local Boots for some and they gave me two boxes. That was several months ago and they are still in the cupboard unused.

  • I test before I go to meet family/friends or before they come to visit me.  OH tests pretty regularly as he is working in retail.  If one of us is going in/near a pharmacy we pick up a couple of kits (they allow us one each) ... if we need more and we're not going anywhere to pick them up I apply online and they arrive the next day.

To clarify, pharmacies are handing them out but they need a code from the recipient to prove they have been given and that can be obtained by calling 911. Or going online. Unfortunately there was a suspicion that pharmacies were claiming for giving out boxes without doing so and of course our scrupulously honest government could not tolerate that! Now people have to have the code and never mind how many staff members get shouted at by unhappy customers.
  • When did that start @debs64?  We've never been asked for a code ... where does one get a code?
