Vitabiotics was set up by a Professor at Chelsea school of Pharmacy, they are made to Pharmaceutical standards.  We  were told that for a prescription we had to dispense vitamins with a Product Licence number unless none were available.  Those with product licence numbers,(indicated by PL and a number) the manufacturers are inspected and have to be up to  Medicinal standards and tested.  Those touted as food supplements do not.

    That's good to know @fidgetbones

@Lyn, there's absolutely no way of knowing if that company is legit or not. I can't see a UK address or company number. Anybody these days can make an online company look totally professional. Fidgetbones' point above is very valid.

I have hyperparathyroidism. The parathyroid is supposed to regulate Ca with the help of Vit D and a hormone. My prescription of Vit D is 20,000iu per tablet, to be taken once or twice a week depending on my last blood test result. As far as I can tell, it doesn't actually do anything for my symptoms, but does produce better blood test results. (And the tablets are the size of my thumbnail and difficult to swallow.)

I buy my Vit D tablets from Boots when they do their 3 for 2 offers. Would also happily buy Waitrose own.

I've been taking multi-vitamins all winter after the recommendation by @punkdoc and I must admit my mood has been markedly lighter this year. I've spent way too much time indoors this year too which normally gets me down a bit. Did anyone else see the benefits?
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
  • Well, I've been taking Vit D every day since the start of the pandemic and I'm still here and have remained healthy ... so they've appear not to have done me any harm and may have done me some good ... I'm going to keep taking them.   :)

  • I take Vit C, Vit D, Iron & Zinc. I don't take them regularly but it seems to have made a difference - might just be the placebo effect?

my bottle is about to run out, but the clocks change soon, and the days are longer anyway. I'll go back to them at the end of summer

I've been taking D3 for about 15 years.
Along with Zinc and Vit E

A recent article in New Scientist reported on study where 26,000 over 50's were given 2000iu Vit D/day - far higher than the recommended daily intake - the results showed that alongside the other benefits of taking it, it showed significant reduction in autoimmune related diseases.
