It seems to be an area where the medical thinking has changed quite drastically in the last few years and strong vit D levels are now viewed as key for health, in the UK.

I agree, hopefully we move on, as new evidence becomes available.
I think (personal opinion only ) that there may soon be a move towards taking much larger doses.

We take an A-Z vitamin supplement,  probably don’t need half of it but there in case we do.
vitamin C needs Zinc along side or the body doesn’t absorb it,  hopefully Punkdoc will put me right if this is not the case.
Since he advised vitamin D we leave off the multi vitamins and take this one instead through the winter months.   They are a very small tablet,   I’m sure they could be swallowed without difficulties ,  not unlike a piece of biscuit.

@Lyn I was advised to take vitamin c with zinc otherwise it wouldn't do it's job so I get the fizzy vitamin c drinks with zinc added. I also have magnesium in the evening to help the calcium do it's job.

I've been taking prescribed Vit D3 1000mg daily for years because of osteoporosis. Didn't know about the mood improving hormones, maybe that's why I'm usually cheerful!

Not meaning to upset anyone, and I know some people do not like the idea of supplements, but taking Vit D. supplements from October, until March, is recommended by most doctors.

I have started last week, not only because it makes up for the lack of sun at this time of year, but there is also good evidence that it can help raise mood lifting hormones.
Interesting.. I always put my low mood during winter down to SAD. I'll give Vit D a try & see if it works.

As far as I know I've never had my vitamin D levels tested so I'm quite surprised that so many people on here have. It's not a test that's ever been offered to me as a routine check. Is it something that gets tested when investigating particular symptoms or scan results like low bone density? While not wanting to pry about other people's medical histories, I'm curious about what sort of circumstances would prompt a test of vitamin D levels.

@Fran IOM. That’s what I thought, a friend told me years ago that her doctor recommended that.

@Lizzie27. I wonder if it would help osteoarthritis,  sometimes I think my crumbling spine won’t hold me up much longer.
I’m also a cheerful soul,I  don’t do negatives of any kind.

Historically I have v low blood calcium and vit D is tested with that. I also have had ME for 20 years, so have had dozens of blood tests in that period to measure what might be going on. I have hypothyroidism - and re hormone regulation, Vit D plays into all that too. With 5000mg taken daily I can't say I feel very different, but my blood profile (including calcium) is in a good place for the first time in over ten years. I'm still extremely tired a lot of the time, but I'm sure good vit D levels will support continued recovery.
