  • Why not simply eat salmon and other oily fish? They contain lots of Vitamin D.

My wife’s free (for the clinically extremely vulnerable) vitamin D tablets from the government ran out this week. We have plenty more to see us through to next Spring.

After a bone scan the NHS recommended that I take Vitamin D to absorb the calcium in the body and help the immune system. One of the brands that they suggest in their leaflet was Vitabiotics Vitamin D 2000IU D3. You get 96 in a box and very reasonably priced from any health shop or probably pharmacy as well.
@AnniD Like you I have trouble swallowing tablets but these are so small you don't even notice them going down. If I can do it I'm sure you will be able to as well.  :)

I had D3 1000 IU (25 micrograms) last winter and will get the same again. I have very pale skin and get outside when I can, and a bone density scan showed a healthy level so I don't think I need a higher dose. I don't eat any kind of fish or seafood - I can't keep it down so the money's better spent on supplements.

I have red hair and freckles, I have an outside job and the last time my Vit D was measured was after a long August working outside. I had 1/3 of the recommended level in my blood so do not think that just because you get sun you get vitD not everyone makes enough or any.  The Dr put me on 35μg per day for 6 months and then take them every couple of days, summer and winter. That has worked for me.
my tablets dissolve very easily and don't taste bad so you can just chew them if you like.

I used to always get an upper respiratory tract infection after a cold, causing coughing for 2-3 months since taking them I've not had that happen once, (although I still have caught the colds!)

You would need to eat a large portion of Salmon everyday to give you any chance of having adequate Vit. D levels.
How can you lie there and think of England

I’ve been taking Vitamin D all year round for some years. I’ve just switched to a multivitamin with iron for a while. Had a recent blood test that revealed hypothyroidism, big surprise all round, so I’m now taking tablets for that. However the blood test also revealed borderline anaemia so I thought I’d give my self a boost. Tried to get Iron with Vit C but none in stock, so I got the multi version.
