Good morning Rosie, debs, LB, Rubee, SGL and all to follow.

Debs, I hope so that you will be better soon. Take a rest now from work.

LB, have a nice day with your sister.

I hope that Rosie managed to get some sleep.

SGL, I also have my heating on. It's one more cold and windy morning. Day just for stay in and resting. Unfortunately, I must go out.

Morning everyone - rather a grey day out there and very murky. Drive is covered in leaves again so may do some raking up - depends whether or not the urge strikes! Have to make a tagine first.

Debs - sorry to hear you have a cold. I had a truly dreadful cough with mine which left me exhausted. Took a while to clear up too so make sure you take care of yourself.

LB - enjoy breakfast! Are you going for a full English or something a bit posher? I don't like breakfast😱 (food before 11am just seems wrong to my body) but I rather enjoy a good brunch.

Wrapping seasonal presents, writing cards and putting up decorations before December even starts is also on my no, no, never list. I have already bought some bits and pieces though and I'll be on the lookout while mooching round Lincoln on Saturday.

    Speaking of kittens....

Next door's mischievous pair pushed their way in when I went to open the front door. They've had a mad half hour chasing one another up and down our stairs before I kicked them out. They're very cute and friendly and definitely young cats rather than kittens but still full of fun🙂

@Dovefromabove - could I have either a bit of very mature cheddar or (other extreme) a slice of creamy Wensleydale with mine please? I'll pop the kettle on🙂

You've not lived if you've not had a boiled fruit cake @Songbird-1.😁

It's very moist with a denser, stickier texture - well MIL's is and she's the only person I know who makes a boiled fruit cake (apart from Dove it seems!)

MIL's is a bit like a loaf shaped Christmas pudding but cake-ier and with bigger bits of fruit.

Of course you may ... very mature cheddar always available in the Dove household, creamy Wensleydale often, along with mature red Leicester, Lincolnshire Poacher, Binham Blue or a crumbly sweet mature Caerphilly. ... this is the home of a cheeseophile  :D

Songbird ... you should've had my paternal grandmother, she was the daughter of a village baker and her husband was a traditional farmer ... she was born to cook and she saw it as her mission to teach me, as my mother came from a family where the women didn't cook as they had  cooks to do that for them.  My other grandmother frequently only just avoided poisoning us with undercooked chicken and sausages  🤣  They were complete opposites.

@Dovefromabove - a lovely list of cheeses there but I'd have to add Baron Bigod from the Fen Farm Dairy near Bungay. It may be my new favourite cheese - right up there with Brie de Meaux😋.

I'm sure it's one you've had many times but I only had my first taste early this year. A very good bad discovery😉 Excellent with grapes or cherries, walnuts and a good baguette.

  • Afternoon everyone, I left my glasses at mums and my spares are not so good so please bear with me 🤓
Hazel My goodness how organised all gifts bought & wrapped 👏 The knit a kitten sounds so sweet I’m sure 23 will love it,
Busy Good to get your flu jab done sooner rather than later,
LB Goodness that was lot of hand sanitizer dispensed in a job lot! Hope you had a delicious breakfast with your sister today and enjoy a good mooch round the outlet shops
Bluebells The dry nuts & fruit sound a nice addition to your breakfast,
Debs Hope you soon feel better, fingers crossed for for a negative result 🤞
Topbird Lovely idea for the meal, hope you have a good time at the meet and your dinner party goes well. Are you watching GBBO? have you a favourite for the final?
Ante I hope school goes well today, no sign of snow I hope 🤞
Dove Yum 😋 boiled fruit cake is a favourite with our family too, we use the Stork New Art of cooking book recipe which is old now. Dad was a baker, mum a school cook so we always had homemade,
Hope you’ve warmed up now SGL 😊
Rubee Hope you’ve had a good day.

Oh yes @Topbird  you’re right … I love  Baron Bigod and Norfolk White Lady is to die for … OH used to sell them when he worked at the other farm shop … but they’re not what i would eat with fruitcake.
