If they had planned to eat them I might agree Dove.  This was the theft of a commercial quantity, not just a few they thought would be nice in their garden.  They knew exactly what they were doing.

Oh yes, they'll have been intending to sell them at a  car boot sale I expect, and that way they'll have put food on the table.  But as I said, the area is pretty impoverished ... not just financially but in many ways ... decent education and employment opportunities (other than seasonal work) out that way has lagged behind abysmally and the people who live there are marginalised in a way that I've not seen anywhere else ... they have a culture of fending for themselves ... I'm not excusing their behaviour ... just explaining it.

I doubt if they were intending to use them in their own gardens, whatever they told the judge.

I hope the wild boar up in the Forest of Dean have deep pockets given the amount they've uprooted. :#
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

I'd give most of it away, but maybe a few hostas, just a few
I'm looking for advice on getting a few hostas. I just thought that with your screen name and all,  you might know someone to ask about them?. 😆 😆 😆

    I have a problem here:
We were talking films. My husband accepts that sexual violence is de trop. Agreed. But he's happy to watch films with physical violence.
Why is physical violence in films seen as entertainment ?
However, I read on the BBC news site that a serial killer  child killer in India escaped  prison and was beaten to death. I thought , good. Hypocrite?
Talking of hypocrisy or other negative traits I kept reading very judgemental newspaper reports about the various cases of rape and murder that happened in India.  The papers, likes of guardian and independent,  made a big deal and I thought very condescending report of how bad India is. I thought that was bad considering the prosecution and conviction rate was something like double that of the UK.  Also, they had been putting in a lot of time,  training and investment into investigation, prosecution and support for victims.

Then more recently I heard that a very high proportion of domestic abuse cases simply timeout before they are, not can be but actually are,  investigated and prosecuted.

Sorry if this is not the place for this but WTF! India beats us in carrying out rape prosecutions!!!! We are not first world nation any more!

The UK certainly can't claim the high ground, but reports of some of the rape and murder cases in India are truly horrific.  Gang rape then set on fire to destroy the evidence.  It would seem that in some parts of India women have no rights whatever, and no recourse to the law.

    exactly.
I've spent 2 years of my life in India and I love the country and its people, but some parts of society are a total mess. " Law and order " being primary amongst them.
