Is it safe to ask a question yet? I really like the plant that was being debated ,what sort of soil does it need to grow well? Mine is a little claggy Will it grow well potted ?
  • @bcpathome I think most persicarias like it a bit damp so probably fine!

    I'd forget it if I was you @bcpathome  :D
They aren't great in pots - fine for short term. They're fine in most soils though.

They spread well (but I find most are easily controlled) ... they make great ground cover.

  • I thought the pot idea was an alternative to the claggy soil.

Yes I thought if claggy soil wouldn’t do  I would try a pot. So as it seems that claggy soil WILL do ( I’m not shouting ) I will go ahead and purchase one. Thank you .

There are lots of other varieties of Persicaria too. Very versatile plant   :)

    Hi @bcpathome,

I grow Persicaria affinis 'Darjeeling Red', which has an AGM.
It's in a very damp situation and loves it.
It has made a wide mat of groundcover, and I keep hacking off bits for other places in the garden.
It is semi-evergreen, even here is Scotland.

    A really nice plant.

Thanks for the tip. My ground is claggy except for the bit at the very bottom where my neighbours lelandii ( spelling) have sucked all the life out of it and nothing grows ,not even weeds .So I think this plant will suit the rest of the garden wherever I decide to plant it .
