I think @Silver surfer posted pics of both the plants suggested so that we could compare. The top one is your plant I think Jac, the second one the persicaria.
Mystery plant is Persicaria as mentioned by others. maybe Persicaria affinis...see 2nd pic
I only said in the picture Silver posted of I counted 6 petals.
Jac19 I apologies most humbly if my pic of Lythrum virgatum Dropmore purple has caused this terrible confusion./upset./anger ..I really hate it when threads get nasty. I was merely trying to find pics of the "Dropmore " that you mentioned...clearly it was not this Lythrum , that you correctly say has 6 thin petals. ...............................................................
Please may we all just close this thread and we are all in agreement now that Persicaria has 5 petals and is indeed the mystery plant.

No. You said "Percicaria has 6 petals". Which is demonstrably wrong. And now instead of realising you were wrong and learning something you are arguing that you said something totally different when it is written there earlier in this thread.

I only counted them off Silver's picture. I don't have them in the garden and I don't remember planting Percicaria before.

Ah, yes, Silver. Google does a picture likeness search and put up pictures of other things that its bots think look like the actual one you are searching for. Easy mistake I have made before also to pick one of those likeness images.

Precisely why it might be prudent to go and educate yourself or listen to people with more experience, instead of arrogantly proclaiming things which are untrue and then arguing when people point out you are wrong.

jonathan.cole..it was my fault. Confusion has clearly arisen in the comments on these posts because of a pic I posted of Lythrum which has 6 petals. Please see my posts above.
I was going to say maybe a Dropmore? I have a blue version of Dropmore, but I know a deep pink version exists.
I did not "proclaim" anything! The above is hardly a proclamation! I have a right to propose a suggestion without being attacked nastily.
It's not that Jonathan is referring to I don't think, but the later interactions. I really think we've done this all to death over several threads now and if we all leave it a bit for some reflection we can move on.
