Hi everyone, busy day yesterday and today. Volunteer day at Capel today, it was heaving with Halloween visitors, good income for the College tho. Before I left for Capel, there was an item on TV, with the lead of the Blood service, B(e) Positive choir talking about recruiting ethnic minority donors. It was strange seeing someone I helped train as a "young lad" in the labs now as an elder statesman of the Blood service. He was saying how many children are affected by sickle cell disorder, and the need for peple from ethnic minorities to donate suitable blood matches to treat these patients. I knew he was involved with gospel style choirs, it was great to see they have established their own at the Blood service.
I saw that too @Allotment Boy and found it joyful despite all the difficulties. I do not understand why ethic minorities and mixed race people are so reluctant to give blood or donate bone marrow and organs. Is it cultural or a failure of communication by the organisations concerned which leads to people not thinking about giving?

Having a lovely break, very relaxing. Still working on Christmas menus and stuff but in a leisurely fashion.
We went to Lourdes yesterday, left a very sad impression on me. Blackpool style tat and vulnerable believers....shame.
Beautiful weather. Struggling to find nice cafés, definitely opportunities for CdeG to expand if I was so inclined - I'm not, though. Where we're staying is very beautiful, love the views, possible retirement location.....

Had my eye checked, new floater, just an age problem, but the optometrist said you should always get a new floater checked. Eye has been blurry all afternoon, thanks to the drops, but I was able to do some gentle weeding and edging.
Glad you have been enjoying your holiday @D0rdogne_Damsel, I found Lourdes a tourist trap too.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Glad you got the floater checked @Busy-Lizzie - one cannot be too cautious when it comes to eyes. What a stunning photo @D0rdogne_Damsel! I did a few jewellery repairs for a local lady and finally got around to emailing her to say they were ready. Her husband came and picked them up and told me he is sure that Rotary would be willing to help steward the Christmas market so I'm happy. It's always very hectic when all the stallholders arrive at 7am in the dark, anxious to get to their pitches and set up so the more stewards I have the better. And they've got they're own high viz.

As ever it's quite complicated, but in the past the Blood service was reluctant to raise issues like this for fear of accusations of racism. Some time ago they realised they had a multicultural work force, and so could use their own staff, with varoius backgrounds to talk more openly about such issues. It seems though they have campaigns which yield results, they have to repeat them quite regularly to keep the awareness up.
Horrible weather here. Rain lashing on the windows tonight.
Had flu jab today so that’s me all vaccined-up for the Winter. I’m hoping I feel ok tomorrow as don’t want a repeat performance of the COVID vax’s assault on my immune system.

How on earth did it get hold of them!
