    Can sympathise with the hardened clay soil,  we had it in Kent, my daughter lives in the clay country she battles but after years of reforming it she’s got it good now,  It can be very fertile soil.

  • As I’ve said elsewhere, I grew up on heavy Suffolk clay … but copious amounts of pig manure from the farm resulted in a fantastically productive veg garden and beautiful roses.  

    Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

    It’s bad at the back of my borders, I can’t get in there to mulch. 
    You could make your own pots B.

    Plenty of nice sticky yellow clay if you go down far enough. I might find making yellow stocks more profitable.😏
