Hello all .... thought Sunday was a day to rest .... seems to be a busy one here 🤪
Apart from all the other 'stuff' we're doing (sorting cupboard contents etc) there's a lovely piece of Redpoll brisket in the slow cooker for later and Ive picked some more Cavolo nero to have with it. Is looking forward to supper a bit like 'wishing my life away' ?🤔
Hope those who had disturbed nights/stressful days etc have a peaceful evening and restful night tonight .... we'll all need it ... despite them saying that tomorrow never comes, I've a feeling there'll be one arriving before very long
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Good afternoon all. I hope you have all had good days. Lovely to see you Chive and what happy news about your Mum. We were horrified on here when we heard about your MP. He seems to have been well thought of by all. Thoughts are with his family and friends. One of his daughters got married a month ago according to the news yesterday.
Hazel, its good to see you too. Sorry to hear about 23's test result but he'll probably shrug it off and enjoy his freedom from school. It may conveniently run into his half term break too.
T'Bird, I passed again on going to see the rellies - damn cough. I need say no more. I've dodged the showers and pottered a bit in the garden. I need to contact a fencing firm as my 25+ year old fence is giving up the ghost. It is going to be a bit of a nightmare of a job as there are lots of plants that will hinder progress, not to mention the ivy on my neighbour's side that has overwhelmed parts of it. I'll see who will like the challenge. My neighbour has volunteered to assist but as they have just completed their purchase of the property in France, I don't want to impose on him. I'll have to take a squiz at that Gordon Ramsay vid!
Biglad, Zinnias are only half hardy annuals and any young plants probably won't survive the Winter. Some of your other hardy annuals may self seed if they are happy in their situation.
Not long now SGL!
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
LB, my OH had a local handyman to put up the new fence, he ordered the fence online. Cheaper than a fencing firm. OH untied all the plants, removed the wires on the fence and re-wired the new fence.
I've finished planting, next job is to weed everything and then clean the house before I go to join OH.
Here is my new bed and one of the newly pointed walls. The gaps have bulbs in them or are waiting for early summer plants to arrive in the GCs in spring.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Thank you Busy, that is positive news re the fencing. The pointing on your wall looks wonderful and that bed is going to be glorious as it matures. Does the retaining wall continue along the pathside? That would make maintenance easier - almost like a raised bed - or is it just the bit we can see that finishes mid right in the picture?

Hazel - if you're worried about the foxgloves being hardy then don't be. I have loads of foxglove seedlings and young plants dotted around the garden which will survive anything the winter can throw at them except maybe constant waterlogging (never a problem here!).
Personally, I'd plant them out now. If you're still not sure maybe just move them out of the coldframe and tuck them away in a corner somewhere. They don't need cossetting in a coldframe or a greenhouse for sure.
Small caveat - I'm assuming we're talking common or garden foxgloves here and not some exotic type? (if such a thing even exists!).
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
LB that wall goes all along the bed then there are steps up to the lawn on the left. Mowing on the tractor was a bit risky there, right next to the drop and a bit of a slope. Having the new bed solves that. It is like a raised bed on one side. There is a concrete path along the house wall, which then opens out to a paved terrace.
Topbird, I may go to Norfolk the end of the week. Ryanair gets very expensive after that, in time for school holidays. It will mean I'll have to have a PCR test on Day 2 as the antigen test won't have started yet for travellers from France.

LB I hope you have a much better night, rest well. Chive so good to hear mum is doing well. I'm so sorry to hear of sir David Amess. There was a lovely family picture on the news. Its very sad. Top ird these coughs are such a nuisance. I try natural honey to soothe. Lily I hope you and oh are doing well. Busy it will be lovely to see oh soon. Hazel I haven't managed to sort out the router yet. I've reset it. I'll need to ring in the week as the lights are all green and should be blue apparently. Hazel I hope your daughter is feeling better. Biglad I hope you don't sleep in the chair tonight. I visited today and fell asleep while I was there. Wishing you all a goodnight.

Oops - meant to say night night LB - hope you get some sleep tonight. This stupid cough is a real pain isn't it? Nice and productive too🤢😖
It's only in the last 4 or 5 days that I've been able to hold a conversation for longer than 2 minutes without dissolving into a hacking mess. 🙁
BL when do you leave for Norfolk? Safe journey when you do.
