I am sorry if I seemed rude my point was that just because other countries do things one way that is noreason to change policy in Britain. I assume you are happy with the systems where you live, I wouldn’t be happy to change the status quo for some imagined issue which cannot be proven at the moment. I feel there are other agendas. In this country young people don’t vote as much as they could and I don’t see any advantage to putting obstacles in their way.
I don’t understand the argument that “ you have no freedom anyway so stop making a fuss” A bit like” lots of people are punching you so stop worrying if a few more join in” Its a step too far for me.
@debs64 Don't youngsters have to provide ID to order drinks in a pub (In fact doesn't everyone if challenged?)? I just don't follow that if you accept proof is required in other areas - ie proof of education, proof of driving, proof of training ...etc, why you'd baulk at proof of eligibility to vote. And all ID is becoming more tech - my old driving licence doesn't have a photo - but all new ones do. New passports are chipped for biometrics. What is then being objected to unless you're against all forms of ID?
IDs are a part of modern life already. The national ID card is considered u acceptable by many. I don't understand this inconsistency in thought on this.
Perhaps it's of interest to list the forms of ID currently in use in the UK.
Passport Driving licence NI card Back cards Shop loyalty cards Age identification cards Utility bills Quite a few technology based IDs I reckon. Work based IDs
And (whether rightly or wrongly) ID is moving away from paper (which I personally think was/is too easy to fake) to digitised biometric data held on servers.
Forgot your biometrics which includes tie voice print if you use alexa type apps/ devices. Even your phone keyboard app has a form of ID through such things as swype style or autocorrect. It's all patterns attributed to your account.
Reportedly a lady went into a bank and said that she was Gloria Hunniford and they let her withdraw £120,000 needless to say Gloria Hunniford wasn't well pleased.
A lady with an African accent has just phoned saying that she was from Amazon fraud department when I asked her where she was calling from she said from London, when I enquired which part of London she said North London, when I asked for the postcode she said EC1, when I said that EC1 wasn't in North London and if she was going to try and scam people she should get her story straight she hung up.
