Hello...  yes remove any weedy stuff near your rose.

As for pruning, I doubt most here would be happy to advise you without seeing a picture, or the name of the rose, as we're blind to what you are seeing.. but crossing branches don't always need to be removed.  If your rose is a large bush then it may not hurt to take out the whole brown cane or you could just shorten the green shoot...
Always remember, you don't have to prune anything out if you don't want to, it's not compulsory, just because it says so in books or on t.v.   my motto is, if in doubt - leave it on..

... that's a nice top to GdeF... loads of canes, going to look great..
.. as for the interstem with the reddish colour, that wouldn't concern me... couple of knobbly bits might produce a sucker, have to wait and see... easily spotted in any case..
..the stem looks a bit thin, I would have liked to see it thicker than that for standard roses but it'll soon thicken out..

.. just to add... it's been well root pruned that..

Exciting to grow this rose as a Standard I think.. I for one will be watching with keen interest..

  • Hi this is probably an impossible question but here goes. My step Daughter has a run of new arches down her garden and space for 4-5 climbers or ramblers. I thought she had chosen and ordered but apparently not. So which 4-5 climbers  /ramblers would you pick for a summer long display ?
    Thanks.

Rosa Roald Dahl doesn't get mentioned much. Are there major downsides?

Also how bad is the blackspot on Munstead Wood? I know Nollie's have been blattered. Is that why they were going to discontinue it? Retiring for health reasons?
Black spot doesn’t seem to bother my MW much at all, to be honest, though my DB gets battered with it every year…

Thanks that looks interesting,  we have suggested Felicite Perpetue.
    Only 3 more needed.

Choosing 5 ramblers and climbers would depend on a few things.. and I'd want the arches to be 7' 6'' at the apex and 4 feet width ..

I might go with these one day and a whole lot others on another..

Can she lead with colour pallete? If she's not wanting pink, or yellow, for example, that would narrow the field a lot. Is scent important?  @Allotment Boy
