Just managed to catch up with the thread, having to use my PC now as the thread is too much for my ailing tablet Great reading about all your purchases and rose awards lists!
These are somewhat blemished but I picked them yesterday as a promising wind was picking up. Night Owl (the scent is lovely and wafts about the room), Caroline's Heart, a creamy smell close up, and Hot Chocolate (nothing to my nose). I noticed a comment about Night Owl but I don't remember who posted it...I bought mine as a floribunda too, it's a tall up to 5', thin plant but upright so far. I thought if it got a little weird I'd get it a small obelisk but it doesn't really get up to much.
Had a laugh about @cooldoc's sacrilegious comments about Blush Noisette . I also think it smells of veg, specifically cucumber. Mine is about 6-7' high and wide and am really pleased with it because it has been fuss free for me.
@Fire if you are still considering Flanders, mine has just had its second summer and has thrown up a few 3' canes late this year so I am curious how it will be once established. Previously it was a nice, small, shapely lump of a shrub. I think it could be kept as a lump but I'm going to see what it does next year before trimming it. Not the best pic as it has the long canes of Lark Ascending behind it but hopefully you can get an idea of current size from the remaining flowers.
@Victoria Sponge - Such a lovely mix of colours in that bouquet. I have ordered some Flanders. I will, indeed, be wanting to be keeping it as a small lump of a shrub.. Thanks for the info.
@Victoria Sponge that's interesting that you say Night Owl is thin as I have seen it listed as a small climber. Are the stems pliable enough to be trained horizontally, the space I want to fill is 5ft high but about 8ft wide. If anyone has any alternative suggestions please let me know. I would like something that is very floriferous but not too thorny, single or semi double, I'm not fond of orange but apart from that I have an open mind regarding colour.
Hi @Suesyn, I just went outside to check as it seems contradictory to say upright but pliable but it is. I don't know if it is my own specimen (and husbandry) but I wouldn't have thought it was vigorous enough to cover 5' x 8'. I've had mine several years and it is at most 5' x 2 probably less. It isn't very thorny.
@Victoria Sponge thank you for agreeing on Blush Noisette. I was beginning to think something was wrong with my nose.
Too many mails from DA finally tempted me to buy Harlow Carr and Scepter'd
Already spent around 500 for transferring the roses (and baggage across), wish I could resist the temptation.
I was thinking about you. Hope the move wasn't stressful and you are settling down in your new home. It would be so exciting to plant new roses in new garden.
@Fire Family had to move to west midlands due to OH's job requirement. Had to do an early prune to transfer the roses. Luckily the old place was furnished when we moved in, so did not have to transfer much of those.
@newbie77 Finding a new school for the kids is more stressful. Garden is very small, more like a balcony compared to the previous place. So no room any new perennials... for now...
