I think I should stop visiting this forum.. temptations are difficult to control..
Nice selections all.. Roses which I am planning to drop are Comte de Chambord, Eleanor (balls badly) and Blush noisette (Very vigourous and floriferous but not a fan as its blooms appear dirty and smells like some veg to me). Do let me know your experience on these roses. I might give royal jubilee another chance though it did not perform well for me this year.
Some shots before the heavy rain..
Chandos beauty (very fragrant and blooms in flushes)
@cooldoc .. more lovely roses from you today, but I had to laugh at your comment ''smells like some veg'' lol... sacrilege !.. Blush Noisette, one of the world's favourite old roses, is scented of cloves.. ..well, that's what most people think.. I get the dirty though, it does spoil it a bit..
@cooldoc@Marlorena Blush noisette is one of my favourites as I like the blush coloured clusters of flowers a lot. I cut off entire clusters for my vase as I like its fragrance; I think indoors the smell is accentuated.
Chandos beauty is nice too. Might add to my wishlist.
Oxford. The City of Dreaming Spires.
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth
..an alternative scent for Blush Noisette is often described as sweet musk, or just musk like.. this comes from the Rosa moschata [Musk Rose] ancestor close up in the lineage, evidenced by the fused styles in the centre [synstylae group of roses].. .. R. moschata got its name as the Musk scented rose because the scent was considered similar to that found in glands surrounding the private parts of the male Musk Deer..
..quite who sniffed those private parts I'm not sure.. but at least we now have the meat and 2 veg covered for Cooldoc...
@Marlorena I have the once-flowering rambler named Paul's Himalayan musk too - similar flower colouring, shape and clusters and I think the smell is a bit stronger.

..very nice @Eustace ... I can't recall the scent on that, long time ago since I had it, when I grew it through a large Willow tree along a riverbank...where it cascaded and looked quite effective I thought.. ..way too big for me now...
I keep looking at Odyssey I must admit, its beautiful. Im going to put another obelisk in my peach / pink / dark purples bed, so next year will look at a rose climber or two for it as the backs quite empty comparatively. Needs to repeat. I like the look of "meg", very pretty, maybe "oh wow" as purpley but not sure. Its with natalija, peach, first great western and waltz time (although thats blackspot prone and gangly hmmm....). Anyone have any favourites in those tones? That said mine is cottage garden, dosent have to be too matchy matchy!
It is pretty @JessicaS, very early to flower and still going, also very healthy. It isn't compact in a pot, wide arching canes in all directions, even and attractive but an airy, loose rose shrub.
Hello rose lovers and experts! I have a query that I'm pretty sure I know the answer to but am in denial...
If black spot has infected a plants stems, do those need to be removed and disposed of too? I have Wollerton Old Hall over an arch and left some iffy stems on during last year's winter prune. It's been a mess this year. The spots have gone a bit more scabby (see pic). It needs to be cut right back doesn't it? 😬
