@Fire, I have only planted roses in ground in march. Even if I got bare root in autumn, I keep them in pots and plant in march end. I had decent growth and plenty flowers first year. I don't have well drained soil and any hole dug in autumn is practically a puddle all winter.
@Fire I planted 4 Austin bare roots at end March last year in my new bed. Vanessa Bell, Lichfield Angel, Ghislaine de Feligonde and Roald Dahl. I had previously planted 2 other DA bare roots the Nov previous, so same growing season. All grew and bloomed beautifully and there was no noticeable difference between these plantings. I would have no hesitation planting bare roots now. But I can't make my mind up which I want...
Edit. Correction, I just checked and I actually planted them mid April last year
I received the DA handbook the other day but I still haven't opened it. Or the Beales catalogue I mentioned a few weeks back. I had a nice idea of chilling out last weekend reminding myself of the 6 (I think) new DA I bought over winter but before I knew it, it was Mon again. Maybe this weekend, have an extra day as off work on Mon😀
Had a bit of a frost yesterday morning, enough to weld the car door shut. Had a brief look around last night and none of the new growth seems to have melted fortunately.
Yes it’s chilled off here too since the weekend. I noticed that the growth in my potted roses at the front had definitely increased noticeably though, when I got home from work.
@newbie77 I got OH to grab me a bag of Vitax Azalea from the UK on the recommendation of Marlorena, she posted a comparison of the NPK etc. last year, I think, practically the same as DA rose food. It’s not enough for all my roses, so it will be spread a bit thinly. I also plan to use alfalfa tea again this year tho, plus I have FishBizz fish food for top-ups so hopefully all that should be enough. I’m a bit behind, would normally have fed by now but hoping to get around to it this pm.

Im also no longer driving in the dark to work!
I usually get Wilko rose food but their delivery charge is high and I don't have much to order.
I am little bit concerned about organic foods as I have a permanent resident fox.
Any idea do fox like to mess chicken pallets? FBB or bone meal is a complete no no for me due to fox.
